The scroll ring was very crunchy and stiff and jerky while feeling a bit loose and wobbly and made noise at the two stiffest areas as I moved the ring but the more I use it the less stiff it has gotten and changing the windows mouse scroll rate setting has made the scroll ring's action totally predictable and considering the fact that the older ones didn't have any scroll wheel or scroll ring I'm happy to have gotten this capability added even if the quality of the mechanism for it isn't quite as nice as every other part of this very well performing unit. This goes double for using USB 3.0 ports and multiple wireless devices, which are notorious for causing signal interference. Kensingtonworks Software If mobile work is your thing, do yourself a favor and get a Kensington Orbit Scroll, that smaller cousin we talked about earlier. With its low profile and tight construction, the Orbit is perfect for portable situations (and not half bad for primary desktop use, by the way). My takeaway

Program buttons to perform frequently used editing functions such as cut, paste, redo, copy, and select all. The sheer size of the Kensington Expert does mean you will still need to use side to side wrist movement, which may plave even more strain on your wrist.

Compatibility: Chrome OS 44 or above, macOS 10.10 or above, macOS 10.13 or above, macOS 10.8, macOS 10.9, macOS 10.9 or above, macOS Sierra 10.12, macOS X 10.11, Windows 10, Windows 7, Windows 7 or above, Windows 8, Windows 8.1 The wireless model is dual-mode, and gives you the chioce of Bluetooth or 2.4ghz wireless modes. Bluetooth

Someone with longer fingers may or may not feel like they need more support than this newer model offers compared to the older versions and the new removable palm rest may or may not be a good solution for those who want more wrist support, I don't know yet. As I just took it out of the box, unplugged the PS/2 plug of my 20 year old Expert Mouse, and plugged this brand new restyled USB Expert Mouse into my PC here is what I've determined so far... In terms of connectivity, you have two options with the Kensington Expert: a wired model a and a wireless model. There is no access hole on the bottom either. Instead, the ball lets gravity do the work, and to remove the ball you simply grip it and lift, or just turn the whole device upside down and let the ball fall out. Style BALL 9000UPDATE: Basically 60 days into ownership and the revised ergonomics of this model (versus my original vintage serial/PS2 Expert Mouse) have been totally fine for extended daily usage periods with my short fingers without the optional gel palm rest. Assign custom features to the top button. Note: the top button can only be programmed to perform one function at a time. The height and angle mean it is best to use the provided foam and pleather pad, unless you like wrist pain. Ease of Usage The symmetrical design and simple grid layout make casual use very natural and comfortable once you find your preferred hand placement and layout.

For whomever has complained about the stiff, hard ball movement, as a regular daily user of an original Kensington Expert Mouse that I've had since I bought it new literally 20 years ago (in the days of Windows 3.1) I must say that they are wrong, period. Essentially you need around 4 inches of support to use this device, go by the supplied one as a guide - but it hurts (me anyway) to use it.The Kensington Expert is very large and very sturdy, and won’t be moving around at all while using it. Kensington worked directly with Microsoft to provide professional-level solutions that look as good as they function, so you can work like a pro. Overall, the Kensington Expert is a very comfortable mouse with one caveat: the angle of the device, added with the height, may mean added stress placed on your wrist. Another way is to “claw grip” the north end of the ball, with your index and ring fingers occasionally resting on the two top buttons. Though larger hands and longer fingers may have no problems whatsoever using the Expert, a smaller hand may find the large ball obstructs you from accessing all the buttons and using the scroll ring without more movement.
