Description

Little Shuggie Bain, bless him. He’s so sweet and so heartbreaking trying to look after his mum - it absolutely broke my heart – and I’m really excited about Douglas Stuart’s new book. Sara Joanne Cyzer (née Cox; born 13 December 1974) is an English broadcaster. She presented Radio 1 Breakfast on BBC Radio 1 from 3 April 2000 until 19 December 2003. [1] Since January 2019, she hosts the BBC Radio 2 drivetime show, Monday–Friday 4pm–7pm (formerly 5pm–7pm).

Also between 2012 and 2018, she was the stand-in of The Radio 2 Breakfast Show covering for Chris Evans. This story has Sara’s voice ringing true throughout. A fresh, cheeky, insightful take on how change can happen through female friendships.’ DAWN FRENCH

The assorted neighbours come together to try out a new skill, under the watchful eye of their charismatic teacher, Sasha. And as the soft unremarkable lumps of clay are hesitantly, lovingly moulded into delicate vases and majestic pots, so too are the lives of four women. Concealed passions and heartaches are uncovered, relationships shattered and formed, and the possibility for transformation is revealed. Jameela: all she's ever done is work hard, and try her best. Why won't life give her the one thing she wants? Between 14 May 2018 and 13 December 2018, Cox began a new late-night show on Radio 2; the show ran from Monday to Thursday between 22:00 to midnight. She was replaced as host of Sounds of the 80s by Gary Davies; Cox presented her final edition of the show on 11 May 2018. In March 2010, Cox went on maternity leave for the third time, leaving her show in the hands of the newest Radio 1 presenter, Matt Edmondson. [11] She returned to the station on 9 August 2010 to cover for Fearne Cotton for three weeks. Cox made a self-confessed unexpected return to the breakfast show on 2 and 3 September 2010, as she sat in for the unwell Chris Moyles. [12] A sneak preview of the hilarious, warm and big-hearted debut from much-loved broadcaster Sara Cox: THROWN Well observed, and clearly drawing on the authors experience of presenting a pottery show, with one exception, the men do rather badly. It took me a while to realise the significance of the title, as most of the women are literally 'thrown' by their discoveries. Moore, Matthew (11 January 2018). The plot centres around the lives of 4 women at various stages of life and the ups and downs they experience. They meet, united by the gorgeous pottery teacher, Sasha, at a new pottery course at the community centre.

In 2017, Cox appeared on Dara O Briain's Go 8 Bit and was on Steve's team in the show. She lost the episode in terms of points. [29] On 4 June 2017, Cox co-presented the One Love Manchesterbenefit concert special and British television special with Ore Oduba. On 21 October 2014, Cox guest presented a Children in Need episode of The Great British Sewing Bee. [26] Thrown' is billed as a 'laugh out loud' comedy, but I found the relationships between the women and their errant partners poignant - often tragic, and in one case disturbing. I grew up half on my dad’s farm but half on a little council estate nearby. I liked the cosiness and wanted to reflect that. I could also picture the layout in my mind – the community centre, the little doctors… There’s no doubt in any of those questions – not least since Cox spells out her intentions starkly at the start. When sexy Scot Sasha introduces his first pottery lesson, he compares the journey of clay from a moist lump to something beautiful with their personal transformations: they will go from strangers to friends, and solve all of their problems along the way. As an argument for the therapeutic powers of pot-throwing, it’s certainly effective. But as the opening salvo from Cox the novelist, it’s distinctly less convincing. Although she supposedly switches between four different points of view, her third-person narration remains in the same brisk voice – sometimes humorous, seldom distinctive. So why not reduce the cast list and add more depth to the characterisation?

Don’t get me started. I’ve been in London longer than I lived up north but on my dad’s side I come from generations and generations of farmers and then it’s screeched to a halt with us five – we’re lawyers and artists and NHS workers. I think a bit of that might come through in my next book. The dream is a smallholding one day – I’ve got a horse now, Nelly, so I’m getting there. She’s really my escape. The bra wire was currently jabbing her left breast every time she breathed in and, today of all days, she’d need to take some deep breaths.

Summary

Sara Cox has used her experience presenting The Pottery Throw Down to produce this great book about a group of strangers brought together by a pottery class at their local community centre.
