Description

The Pixel 6 has had a launch unlike any other phone I can remember, with Google revealing just about every facet of the device ahead of a full release. OLED display - 2400 x 1080 pixels - 6.4" - 411 ppi - (90 Hz) - 20:9 - OLED - HDR - fingerprint-resistant coating, Corning Gorilla Glass Victus (scratch resistant glass)

Megapixels aren't everything and the Google Pixel phones are the biggest example of that. The top-tier computation photography features they have makes the absolute most out of the 50MP wide (f/1.85) and 12MP ultrawide (f/2.2) rear cameras accompanied by the 8MP (f/2.0) front camera. The colours are highly accurate rather than being vibrant, the images are crisp and the white balance is on point. If the colours would be underwhelming with certain shots, the photo editing features are quite advanced and capable of producing some impressive looking edits. Pixel 6: Price UK Connectivity options on the Google Pixel 6 include Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac/ax, GPS, Bluetooth v5.20, NFC, USB Type-C, 3G, 4G (with support for Band 40 used by some LTE networks in India) , and 5G with active 4G on both SIM cards. Sensors on the phone include accelerometer, ambient light sensor, barometer, compass/ magnetometer, gyroscope, in-display fingerprint sensor, proximity sensor, and fingerprint sensor. The selfie camera is on par with the 11.1MP lens on the more expensive Pro model (Photo: Steven Winkelman) How about that Magic Eraser tool? In a word, it’s magic. If a stranger, overhead cable or lamppost is photobombing what would otherwise be an Insta-worthy picture, all you’ve got to do is edit the image, select Magic Eraser in the Tools section and draw an outline with your finger around what you want removed. The Pixel 6 then takes care of the rest in a couple of seconds.

Google didn't disclose the Pixel 6’s modem at its launch event, nor when we asked for additional details about it. After some research with Sascha Segan, PCMag's lead mobile analyst, we're confident the phone uses Samsung's Exynos 5123 modem. I took the Pixel 6 and iPhone 13 Pro to an Arsenal football match and both churned out very good snaps in the darkness. The shots from the iPhone were marginally warmer in tone (you can see the two below) but whether or not that’s better is down to personal preference. I’d say the Pixel 6 produced an image more akin to what I was actually seeing. The iPhone 13 Pro shot is warmer in tone The Pixel 6 is a little cooler Like last year, the Pixel 6 has a dual rear camera setup, although this now consists of a 50MP main camera that captures 150% more light than before and a 12MP ultrawide camera. Note that the sensor on the main camera is a whopping 1/1.3in in size (bigger than the iPhone 13 Pro Max’s main camera sensor) and has pixels that are 1.2um wide. Magic Eraser, Real Tone, and Face Unblur are a few of the new camera features that the Tensor SoC makes possible. Except for Real Tone, which uses inclusive color science for more accurate representations of BIPOC people, none will fix a photo that's seriously messed up.The most important thing to note is that the Pixel 6 is the very first handset to be powered by Google’s in-house Tensor chipset. Ditching Qualcomm and avoiding Exynos and Kirin, Tensor promises a handful of performance and efficiency improvements over last year’s mid-range Snapdragon 765G, and it represents a bold new future for Google.
