Description

Most race nights have eight races and, combined with a few drinks and often a meal, they really are a very popular event. Many variations are possible, but do bear in mind an event for 250 people will take more organising than one for 50. Getting the whole event sponsored takes the pressure off, and guarantees a worthwhile event for all concerned. Just relax, have fun, and make money – you’ve got it all covered! Bear in mind that the organisation or person sponsoring the event might expect to get some advertising or media benefit from the event. They may want their name on the race cards, or be recognised through some form of advertising or use of their logo, or by an announcement or regular message, or may want to attend the event. They may also want to name each race and runner. That’s fine, just let us know. However, all proceeds must go to a charity or good causes. This includes the difference between stakes placed and pay-out made. Proceeds can’t be taken for private gain by the licensed gambling business. None of the following exemptions for these forms of gambling can be carried out remotely, for example over the internet or social media. We supply an A4 payout calculator, which makes the working out of the race night payout very easy. At the end of the race the winning payouts are announced.

There is more information about betting under an OUN in section 39 of the Gambling Act 2005 (opens in new tab) Private gamingA Race Night Master of Ceremonies– You could hire an MC but the local “character” of your organisation can usually do a good job and this will help the race night run at a profit. An OUN can’t be used for more than eight days in a calendar year for any one venue. Using proceeds for fundraising Using films of actual horses, shown on a large screen, guests enjoy an evening of selecting and then cheering on their horse. By using real money, they can be an extremely successful fundraising event. Thank you so much, we have recommended you a number of other football teams looking to raise money aswell!

The winners collect their prize money which is usually 50% of the total bets taken with the other 50% going to the chosen charity or good cause (the percentage can be altered depending on your requirements). This kind of race night can be run without a licence, or any other form of permission, however, it must be run according to the rules of the three categories previously listed. How A Race Night Works

Owners are usually the first to sponsor a runner. Try to sell all of the ‘owners’ first as it guarantees a winning owner in each race. If you sell the runners in advance of the event, you can offer the ‘owner’ the chance to re-name their runner. Some clients charge for the privilege, some don’t, it’s up to you. It’s free money for you as there is no input cost. You can just provide us with the names and we’ll format them on to your race cards for you. If you prefer not to sell them in advance, or have some left unsold, we can try to sell them on the night at the event, but then you won’t have the option of changing the runners name as the race cards will have been printed. For example, in this kind of race night each player pays a fee for a randomly selected ‘horse’ in each ‘race’. The player with the winning horse can receive a prize proportionate to the stakes placed, up to the limits. Prizes You don’t need a licence for this kind of race night. However, you can’t use private gaming for fundraising. You can’t charge any entry fees This includes any kind of admission fee or fee for taking part. You also can’t deduct money from stakes or prizes. Only the non-commercial gaming and occasional use notices types can be used for fundraising. Non-commercial gaming

Please do let us know if you'd like to add your own content to your event, so we can plan how it will fit around the races. You may wish to consider if you'd like your guests to see the live "tote odds" on screen, and plan what will be on the screen at each point in your event. Follow these steps to make sure your content is seen at its best - The 1-2-3 Tricast has 336 possible combinations, and you should only attempt this if you are confident of selling all the entries to guarantee a winner. It can be sold before and during the event. The compere will agree with the client which race will be run with the There are always 8 runners per race to sponsor. The runners may be horses, piggies or doggies, depending on the type of event. (Just bear in mind that whatever you do, don’t sell the runners in an auction race. More on that later…) People can own as many runners as they like, and the sponsoring cost is up to you, but keep the sponsoring cost the same for every runner, and also have only one class of sponsor per runner, otherwise people get confused as to who owns what, and you’ll make things extremely difficult for yourselves.

An example of a race night as non-commercial equal chance gaming is where each participant pays a fee for a randomly selected ‘horse’ in each ‘race’ and the participant with the winning horse or the person who selected the winning horse receives a prize proportionate to the stakes placed, up to the limits. Equal chance gaming is where the chances are equally favourable to all players, and they’re not competing against a bank. It includes games such as poker or bingo. At the end of the event, clear analysis including graphs and charts are automatically produced showing the betting activity throughout the evening. A financial summary can be printed so that any monies can be reconciled. It's a good idea to either arrange a bar for the evening if the venue doesn't have one or, if that's not possible, remind people to bring their own drinks. Many race nights have a break for food during the evening. Fish and chips is a popular choice; a buffet also works well. For example, those who have paid are given or select a named horse in the race. The winners are then awarded the prizes that had been advertised in advance. Prizes

If there are third parties selling goods or services at your event this doesn’t count as money raised for charity and can be kept by the third party. Who can take part Thanks again for your impeccable service and I will definitely be in touch again before our next fundraiser. a) Give the winning owner/ sponsor a prize in each race. The value of the prize depends on how much you charge per sponsorship, and how much profit you want to make. We suggest prizes such as wine, champagne, vouchers or chocs. Offer a cash prize if you want, but we find that people like to win things. You can’t make any profits, even if you intend to donate the profits to charity or good causes. Private clubs You can’t deduct from or levy on money staked or won by players in the game. It doesn’t matter if the charge is said to be voluntary or compulsory. Particularly if players are prevented from taking part if they don’t make the ‘voluntary’ donation, or, if there’s peer pressure to make the donation. You can’t make a profit from the game The ‘Race Night Double’ is an entry sheet where a player correctly predicts both the winning results in two races (usually race 5 & 7). There are 64 possible combinations. Each player writes their name in a square on the special Race Night Double entry sheet. The person who has correctly predicted correct result in both races wins a cash prize. All entries must be sold to guarantee a winner. There can be only one winner with the correct combination of result. The value of the prize depends on the price per entry. Race Nights are a fun addition to any event, whether you’re raising money for a cause, celebrating a birthday, or hosting a wedding or business gathering. No matter what the occasion is, a race night has the ability to bring people together to share in the thrill of the races. A fantastic opportunity to raise money for the charity of your choice. The very best of British horse racing is brought to you, complete with all the excitement and drama of the races both on the flat and over the jumps.
