Until reading this collection, Junji Ito existed as a myth. His intense, otherworldly horror stories had created this singular presence that was known even among the biggest manga newbs.

Esta antologia incluye diez relatos, el body horror esta muy presente, al igual que el gore y una ambientacion espeluznante. Una antologia con un nivel medio, algunas ilustraciones son realmente demasiado graficas para mi gusto personal. I think that’s the true lesson not only of this story, but Ito’s work in general. He knows humanity with such depth and nuance, and he presents that in a way to tease and poke us into practically scaring ourselves. This story feels like a high point of his skills, and to read it is to stare into the face of a man who gets humanity like few others and uses that knowledge to affect readers on an existential level. Ito, and his monsters, are no mere fable, but something real in that world that’s waiting for you to play your part. Ito has mentioned filmmaker Guillermo del Toro as an influence, but del Toro has also been influenced by Ito’s work. Ito recalls, “20 years ago, director of Shape of Water,Guillermo del Torocame to Japan and said he was a big fan and wanted to see me…I’m very happy that he’s a fan of mine and enjoys my work.” In fact, the two were working together on a game called Silent Hills ( unfortunately, the project was canceled). When the titular fashion model turns up to a day of filming, our protagonist is immediately frightened.

That night, Hideo, now completely hollowed out with holes breaks into Yuuji's room. On the day they found the diary, he went looking for the jade statue in the bushes outside Rina's house. He took a chance with the curse because he knew the jade must be valuable; but then the holes began to open up in his body. He is now possessed by the statue and can't throw it away, although he has tried many times. He says that the doctor is the curse's "messenger", who appears wherever the jade is. Suddenly, the doctor appears and Hideo runs screaming from him. When this book was released, it was a very exciting day for me. Junji Ito is my favourite mangaka and Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein is my favourite novel. Having the latter be adapted into a manga by the former was like a dream come true. But it’s through his creepy, eerie, unsettling approach to horror that this ordinary story becomes funny. In an uneasy and nervous kind of way. I’ve read this book multiple times and, as a Frankenstein obsessive, I’m happy to say that it stands shoulder-to-shoulder with Danny Boyle’s stage adaptation as the best interpretation of Shelley’s original novel.Case in point, grease and “Greased.” While the severity inherent to the premise moves beyond realistic belief, it’s only an extension of a base human disgust. Yui’s family runs a yakiniku restaurant and they live on the second floor above it, but the building’s ventilation is very poor. As a result, the grease and general oily nature of the restaurant wafts up to the top floor as well, making it impossible for Yui to escape the grimy feeling. It’s a horrendous thought: having to deal with oily substances that seep into the furniture, walls, and air so thoroughly that you can never feel clean and at rest in your own home. Got to admit that the unflinching focus on schoolgirl or teenage girl protagonists seemed very pervy, eventually (but he does draw them beautifully!) Both of these horror legends share an uncanny approach to the impossible, the unknowable, the otherworldly. Plus, any good puppet horror story needs a standout wooden villain. Here, Ito gives us Jean-Pierre. He’s as immediately horrifying an antagonist as any other Ito has ever drawn, with a sadistically dramatic grin that pulls on theatre tradition to deliver terror both new and primal. The story’s end kind of just fizzles out as many of Ito’s works do, like hazily detailed urban legends that it’s impossible to get a full grip on. While a few plot points resolve rather predictably, this is nonetheless a fun tale that’s consistently engrossing to look at throughout.

When Ito’s manga adaptation of No Longer Human was published, it actually received a grander fanfare from fans than did his adaptation of Frankenstein.

Greased

Remina fills in this gap by bringing us cosmic horror on an enormous scale. This Junji Ito manga tells the story of a scientist, Dr. Oguro, who discovers a new planet that has suddenly appeared via a wormhole. While Ito’s styles of storytelling and drawing are far removed from Shelley’s writing and themes, the two still managed to marry very successfully. The blurb of the story at the end was more scary then the entire premises, if you see Junji Ito somewhere observing you, run away because you might be the concept of his next story. Ohhh yess , I promised myself that I will read a lot of JUNJI Ito books in 2021 , and here's the first part of that promise. I am all set to get disgusted and horrified again. AGAIN.

Put simply, Junji Ito’s Cat Diary is a short book about Ito’s very real personal experience with becoming the sudden owner of two cats: Yon and Mu. Marionette Mansion: quien controla los hilos en realidad? Que pasa cuando alguien deja de tener autonomia? Sinceramente me aburri. 2/5This creature has simply washed up on the shore one day, and people wonder what it is; where it came from; how it came to even exist. It’s a story that truly sparks the imagination. A cursed record that dooms its listeners. A mysterious jade carving that bestows a horrific disease on those who possess it. A monstrous fashion model. Ghostly blimps of the dead. A crazed puppeteer who turns his family into marionettes. A muse that drives painters mad. A man whose dreams distort time and, eventually, his body. A man determined to carry on his family’s lineage, no matter what. And a nightmarishly greasy house and the poor family the grease envelopes. Each of these balloons is uniquely tailored to a specific person, sharing their exact face and hair. Everyone has a balloon, and everyone’s balloon is after them. At first, people think it’s a performance piece, but then it gently turns from strange to frightening. This is a very unique book amongst the Junji Ito manga oeuvre. For that reason, it isn’t the ideal place to start reading Junji Ito, but it is a fantastic read for fans of his horror manga.
