There are a lot of artefacts to get through here as they’re more split up by keyword, so these are just a selection of the more interesting ones. This review was completed using a copy of Battletome: Gloomspite Gitz given to us free by Games Workshop. Simple roll a D6 each round and on a 4+ gain a command trait. Welcome addition and hardly a bad thing to have. Artefact: Aetherquartz Studded Hide The arachnarok of the Webspinner Shaman also got 2 extra wounds, upgraded its fangs to 3 damage and now has a flat, non-degrading 10” move – this is a nice change for all of the big spiders. The warscroll spell here got a little bit worse as it’s +1 to the mortal wounds done by the target unit rather than double, but remember that doubling ability is now a command trait. Yes, you can make the Scuttleboss do 6 mortal wounds for every 6 to hit. Battleline Not much, honestly. Assuming they remain valid, which Games Workshop has been pretty dicey over in the past few months, there isn’t quite enough here to work with. Without mincing words, Gloomspite Gitz have one the worst win records in the competitive circuit, sometimes even being beat out by Grand Alliance lists. The reasons for this are many but to sum it up in a few short words, they have subpar stats that heavily impact their survivability (especially their atrocious bravery) and don’t quite get to field the numbers to overcome this.

Jaws of Mork Loonboss on Mangler Squigs or Giant Cave Squig, 0-3 Loonbosses on Giant Cave Squigs, 1+ Moon-Jumper Stampedes, 1-3 Jaws of Mork Mangler Squigs 0-2 Squig Herders. The Bad Moon even has an effect on tabletop games. Before the battle starts, you’ll elect a table quarter from which the Bad Moon will approach the battlefield. Each turn the Moon may linger in its current position or move erratically onwards, through the centre of the battlefield and eventually off the other side. While the Bad Moon hovers over a table-quarter, it will shed its baleful light on all the models there, and when in the centre of the battlefield it will cover the entire board. The Gloomspite Gitz battletomecontains all the rules, Warscrolls, and army abilities you need to build an army of nasty little goblins and their reeking allies. The Gloomspite Gitz build effigies to the Bad Moon wherever they make war, and you can represent this on the battlefield using the Bad Moon Loonshrine faction terrain piece. Squigs are fang-filled mouths on legs that bounce across the battlefield. All squigs move a random distance, so neither you nor your opponent can predict quite where they’ll end up. Some grots are brave, foolhardy or insane enough to ride squigs into battle like lethal space-hoppers. Regardless it’s still nice for them to see some sort of subfaction when they previously didn’t get one and it couldn’t hurt to give them a few more for good measure. They really need the help. Shootas and Stabbas return and both are improved on their baseline warscroll. Shootas in particular now come with more range and hit on a 4+ with their bows, and get an extra shot for having 10 or more models. Stabbas have their shield baked in for a base 5+ save and have lost their wound bonus in exchange for a really exciting ability to contest objectives from 9” away instead of 6”.

Grimscuttle is a total rewrite from the old White Dwarf rules and feels like it still doesn’t quite get there for what is one of the weaker standalone parts of the army. This now lets you deploy up to two spiderfang units off the board with each skitterstrand that you have already deployed in ambush from beyond – bringing all the units on together when the skitterstrand deploys onto the board. It’s certainly an interesting way to keep some of your units safe from early alpha strikes, but can leave you at the mercy of multiple 9” charges. Battalions That’s not their only Allegiance Ability. While Deff Grotz is defensive against magic, this is your offense. With this ability, Skitterstrand (Which is only one unit, unfortunately) can reroll all hits against Priests and Wizards. Incredibly niche, but Skitterstrands can deep strike, allowing you to time their appearance just right to find an opening in your opponent’s army to hit their spellcaster. Command Ability: Masters of Feigned Flight The lore section notes that members of the Destruction Grand Alliance have a curious ability to adopt the traits of the realms they live in, allowing them to spread more than other races. The Gitz of Shyish carve out an existence in the hellish afterlife realm by becoming predators in its dark and nefarious landscape. The Grimscuttle of Shyish worship a deity who’s true name is unknown, but goes by The Spider God, The Feaster of Beyond and the Scuttler in the Void among others. Like the Gloomspite Gitz other deities, it’s impossible to tell if this being is real or the product of too many ingested mushrooms. Regardless, the Grimscuttle Followers are a very real threat, appearing in the night under a full moon to ensare victims to sacrifice to their god. Loonshrine Update, Spider Rider EditionWhat the bad moon does is provide a benefit to any unit under its light, which means wholly within the large quarter that the moon is occupying, or the entire board if it’s in the centre. There’s 3 kinds of Trogg units, plus a leader and a named leader. While not a ton of variety, lets try and keep it in theme as best we can. Allegiance: Gloomspite Gitz
