In addition, extra circles can be added, in blood or otherwise, and a reinforcing of the binding achieved through repetition of the opening statement of intent. Stage Two – The Calling Forth Summoning a demon means transferring it from its home plane to the physical world. This can happen anywhere, given the correct circumstances. Indeed, some demons keep a keen eye or ear on the mortal realm so that they can slip in at the first opportunity. On a ley nexus, however, a demon can not only be summoned, but also bound – brought to the physical world safely, in a manner controlled by the demonologist. Summonings & Bindings I'm a huge fan of horror movies, and The Conjuring and it's spinoffs are some of my favorites. For those of you who are unaware, that series of movies (including the Annabelle franchise) are all based on cases that Ed and Lorraine Warren handled throughout their career, and several of them are included in the book. The majority of demons will not resist banishment, the most powerful exception to this being possession. In this case a banishing ritual will be required.

As with all elements of summoning, the better the knowledge of the demon is, the more successful binding will be. Powerful, individual demons have their own unique likes and dislikes, and a summoner can expect to require several rare or exotic items to use for the strongest wards. The summoner can reinforce the wards through force of will and conviction – stating the names of the wards and their nature will boost their effectiveness. I decided to read THE DEMONOLOGIST for two reasons. First, I'd recently rewatched the movie, THE CONJURING, and this book contained the "true life" versions of the main cases mentioned in the show. The second reason was that Vera Farmiga, who played Lorraine Warren in the movie, indicated that this was the book she used to prepare her for the role. ... She also said that it scared the Hell out of her and she wouldn't have it anywhere in her home to keep anything from gaining admittance. The purpose of the book is not to excite or amuse. It is a book of warning using some of the Warren's most famous cases as illustrations. The title is a reference to Ed Warren who was apparently the only non-ordained demonologist in the world. He would not conduct exorcisms, but he would try to expel demons. They are capable of nuking the sanity of a player by up to 70%. The trigger for causing this nuke is unknown. Can hunt at higher sanity. What I expected was a kind of fun romp through the supernatural world that I don't really believe in but am still at least a little interested in. I wanted to read a book written by a skeptic, like me, who would probe into the lives of the subjects and try to separate the truth from the lies. This novel is written in an inconsistent manner in that Brittle writes most of it as if it were an interview, with questions posed to Ed Warren, and then Ed’s answers. However, parts of the novel are written as a story, with a beginning, middle and end, particularly when detailing the Warren cases. Brittle also uses an inane amount of exclamation marks, for unknown reasons. Also, if you have seen The Conjuring movies, a lot of the material in this book is a bit redundant. ESG raises paranormal energy and will display the ghost on top of the device. It's best to place ESG near light sources for visibility, and in the middle of the room or in pathways if possible. You can try to trigger ESG by saying "manifest" and "show yourself". These phrases have a cooldown of 30 seconds. This is a rare evidence and may take a while. The Demonologist’s life is usually a solitary one as those not involved have difficulty relating to him and to what he does. He often experiences periods of loneliness as he has few close friends. As an opponent of the demonic, his identity is known within the spirit realm, and he is pitted against that which possesses the intelligence of the ages bent upon his destruction. He is a target of the demonic by virtue of meddling in its affairs on behalf of the vulnerable. It is a lifestyle that permanently alters the landscape.

Pyper’s novel is enthralling in its subdued intensity…Calm and learned prose that chills to the bone.”– Montreal Gazette Probably the most famous case that involved the Warrens was known as The Amityville Horror. They were not the central figures in the story, but they knew the priest who tried to help and they assure the Reader that all of the happenings recorded are true. Besides the info and details about some of their cases, the book also it gives extended explanations about the differences between kinds of spirits, human and inhuman ones, and also the typical signals of the process of a haunting in any house. The term demonologist often conjures up the thought of summoning demons, and understandably so, as there are different types of demonologists. The Biblical demonologist, however, studies demons from a theological standpoint - not a magical one. He studies how mankind is affected by them and intercedes on the behalf of those influenced or held captive by them. A religious demonologist systematically studies demons and devils and beliefs about the same, their powers, limitations, origins, reason for existence, etc. It is the branch of theology relating to those beings that occupy the demonic realm of the spirit world. In stark contrast to the occult demonologist’s intent and purpose, a religious demonology studies for the exclusive purpose of elimination. I found this book to be insightful and intriguing. It is so hard to read something like this with a scientific eye. It is always hard to balance faith and science. So, I threw the scientific side of my brain to the wayside (for the most part) and went with the Warrens on their journey. I am not totally sure about EVERYTHING written in this book. At times the Warrens did seem to contradict themselves and I still had a lot of questions. For example, why they would choose to put all these supposedly "diabolical" items in a museum for multiple people encounter for the sake of making money? Wouldn't that increase the chance that someone would be affected by these unholy items? That does not make sense if the Warrens' intentions were purely selfless. So, I guess that I did not completely lose my skepticism while reading this book......Big Bad: Abatu, one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, who leads a cult in trying to summon the others to Earth.

Once the circle(s) are complete the demonologist must stand in a place of prominence outside the circles and perform the rites required to draw the demon into the physical world and give it shape. Damien Seryph is a detective investigating a series of ritualistic homicides. As it turns out, they're being committed by a cult led by one of the Horsemen of the Apocalypse, who seeks to bring the other three to Earth. As Damien pieces together the mystery, he uncovers secrets about his own past and occult abilities of his own.Binding places you in a position of strength, but it does not obviate the need for sacrifices. Keeping a bound demon happy ensures its good service, and strengthens its presence in the world. Demons of very low circle compared to your skill may offer themselves in servitude, although you will still need to provide them with sacrifices. A sacrifice is any offering that is made to a demon. It is used to call demons and also used in exchange for power. Sacrifices also increase a demon’s power to remain in the world. The higher a demon’s circle, the more valuable the sacrifice should be. Similarly, a sacrifice should be proportional to the power asked for. Inappropriate sacrifices can anger a demon, and will not sustain its presence. Laser-Guided Amnesia: Paimon forced Damien to forget killing his own father as a child due to a botched exorcism because it was too traumatic. The summoning should be conducted as normal, but when the demon appears, the wards will prevent it from leaving the summoning place, and from returning to its plane. In effect the wards also start to bind the demon. Binding takes the form of a bargain, in which the summoner begins with the upper hand; the demon may react in many different ways, from subservience, to anger, to cold, calculating deceit, waiting for the summoner to slip up so as to gain the advantage or to escape. Ideally an ordained minister should be performing exorcisms and deliverances on the Protestant side of the house as he has been set apart for God’s service and authorized by the church or religious organization to perform religious functions of which exorcisms and deliverances remain a part. Unfortunately many of today’s seminary graduates are ill-prepared as the topic of demonology is approached academically and then only briefly. In addition to one’s academic training, integrating a pragmatic approach to demonology will provide the seminarian or Bible College graduate skills into one’s pastorate, benefiting those entangled with the enemy.

After the war, the Warrens had to figure out how to make a living. "Each of us had skills as landscape artists, and we each harbored a desire to paint," Lorraine said. Ed had taken art classes, so, she said, "we began our marriage under the assumption that we were going to be artists."The demonologist must force open the portal to Gehenna and stabilise it to allow the demon to step through. Well, that was both cryptic and intriguing. I was hoping for a spooky story, but it seemed there was more to this one than a ghostly narrative. Incidentally, I did read the book first but I don't feel that whole 'read the book after the movie or else you'll be ruined' really applied to me. The movie wasn't scary at all and that's truly saying something. I mean, cheesy TV series like 'A Haunting' and 'Haunted' terrify me. They love to throw things, and can lower your sanity by doing so. They calm down with nothing left to throw.
