Gaming is another area where we expected the TK800 to do well, but an input lag of 40ms may put some gamers at a disadvantage, although our short stints on Far Cry 5 and Forza 7 didn’t seem laggy to us, but we would probably suggest a demo to test it for yourself if you are the competitive gamer.

Because we reviewed the TK800—which won Best in Class for Bright Room Home Entertainment in last summer's Best Home Theater Projector Report —we probably won't do a full review of the TK800M, which is similar in many ways. With Brilliant Color off, the HT2550 gives a very close match to the reference image, and better color balance than the TK800. Alternatively, choose a bare bulb without housing if you already have experience with replacing bare bulbs and are willing to deal with the more challenging replacement process. It is strong enough to be your portable home entertainment device and the front panel has a nice aqua blue finish, which makes it stand out from the dull coloured home cinema devices which are designed to be hidden away in a dark room.

With single DMD DLP technology to avoid inherent alignment issues of multiple panels TK800 ensures immaculate image integrity and colour accuracy. This means that both will suffer from reduced color brightness to gain the extra white brightness reported in their ANSI lumen specifications.

When putting it into Vivid TV mode, the whites pop substantially with a cold, brilliant white and contrast is improved. And having other cookies switched off can seriously affect the way you’ll be able to enjoy our services. We used our trusty Klein K10-A meter, Murideo Fresco Six-G pattern generator and CalMAN software to take all our measurements.The best noise-canceling headphones have a great mix of features, including that all-important ANC and transparency mode for letting in some outside sounds. We enjoyed this feature, as it enabled us to place the projector a bit closer to the screen in our cramped basement — we got a 100-inch, 16:9 picture at a little over 12 feet from the screen. Regardless of input resolution, the TK800 displays everything at 3840×2160 except 3D which is limited to 1920×1080. Blacks are a light grey colour and there is no shadow detail retrieval at all with just large areas of black mist where the more expensive machines will give you the details in the dark blacks. The BENQ TK800 generic lamp is a bare bulb without plastic housing and is produced by an authorised manufacturer of generic bulbs.

The sharpness of the image is undoubtedly helped by the single chip nature of this projector, which means there are none of the alignment issues found on three-chip machines. For more performance driven projectors we will even take that up to 50 hours before starting any serious assessment. The TK800 is one of the brightest 3D projectors I’ve ever reviewed and that extra output really helped enhance the effect.
