This is Zimmy from India. I like your patterns too much, as its so easy to make, these were so easy no any hotch-potch in your patterns. Fleece fabric is nice and ‘fluffy’ and so the eyes will sink into the fur/pile a little and fit nice and snuggly in place… Also, both products can be hard to use as the bottles are so small and inevitably you will get some on your fingers. When that happens you have to stop what you are doing and clean your hands. Some fabrics tend to fray more than others. Sheer fabrics, beautiful and exotic as they are, can give you the worst uphill battle before you even start to sew.

The following tips will help keep your focus on the fabric and not the fraying. They can apply to all fabrics, but the first few are more suited to sheers, and the last tips for burlaps and canvas. How to Stop Fraying in Fabric Clear nail polish is one of the better choices as well. Most women have it in their bedrooms or make-up kits so it is free to use until you run out and it is always handy to find. LOOK how the second eye, the BLUE Craft eye fits nice and tight with no gap between the eye and the fabric! Cut sheer fabrics with a wider seam allowance. For example: If you add on an extra ⅜” (1cm) and change the seam allowance from ⅝” (1.5cm) to 1” (2.5cm), this allows for some frayed edges. 2. Sew French Seams I wouldn’t suggest using this method on dressmaking/ clothing as you wear the item it can still create friction to cause the material to fray.

To stop a piece of fabric from fraying you can work on a few different techniques. There are ways you can stop the fabric from fraying with a sewing machine and without. Sewn Finish If you feel your fabric is going to fray for whatever reason you can used a sewn finish. This can be on any style of fabric, though if you are using a sheer fabric I wouldn’t use this technique. Then there are the stronger but loose weave fabrics that also have a tendency to fray due to the texture of the fabric. Burlap, canvas, and some linens fall into this category.

If adding a safety nose how would you get it centered. It is usually on a seam. How would you reinforce the seam? Reply I use a craft awl and it’s so much easier. It gives you more control with making the hole in the fabric. Reply hi! i wuv your patterns i just went to jo ann’s and i got your lambkins, horsey(and unix!), and ellie! i hand sewed a unicorn with wings(i guess that makes it a unisiss!) for my sister, and now im making an elephant for me(for the record (my mom wont let me say my age!) im between the ages of 12 and 16) Hi Arlene! Fabrics tend to fray. Not all of them do and when they do, it can create a hassle for you as you sew. Finding the right method to stop the fray is vital. It could be sewing a few stitches or using scotch tape and so on. Or you can use a liquid to keep those threads in line.

I haven’t tried the piece of felt when using thinner fabrics, thank you for that tip. It’s going to come in very handy! Reply You do not have that problem with clear nail polish. The polish stays in liquid form and is ready to be applied at a moment’s notice. Both options are said to make the fabric stiff after application and you have to let both dry completely before handling the fabric again. Then you have to be careful to not use this product near open flames or a heat source. it can be very flammable and you do not want any accidents taking place. Once it dries, the liquid dries very clear and no one should know that you used it unless you tell them that you did. As long as you keep the cap on tight and store it with the cap end up, you should not have any problem if you wait more than a year to use it again. Another user has kept their bottle for several years and reported no problems with the contents. Thanks for this info. I just had my husband help me with the eyes because I couldn’t push hard enough. He will be glad to know there’s an easier way! ReplyWith a degree in Historical and performance costumes, I've experience in both complex sewing techniques and simple sewing tutorials.
