Diese und die kurzen Kapitel lassen einen gut auf ein Lesezeichen verzichten und man findet schnell die zu letzt gelesene Seite wieder. Biddulphs besondere Stärke waren vor allem die vielen kreativen Ideen bezüglich Worldbuilding, Handlungsverlauf und Charaktere. Interessant fand ich dabei, wie der Einfluss von Chroma auf unsere Welt und andersrum geschildert wurde. Das Glossar am Ende des Buches beinhaltete dann noch einmal zusätzliches Wissen zu Kunst usw. und reicherte die Geschichte mit noch mehr Hintergründen an.

Although the synopsis is deceptively simple, the language and text will also appeal to older readers, and I therefore recommend this wonderful little book for self-readers of 10-14 and to all adults who need to be reminded of the colours making our world beautiful. Peanut’s next adventure, ‘Peanut Jones and the twelve portals’, will be released towards the end of 2022. Before he became a full-time author/illustrator Rob was the art director of the Observer Magazine, NME, Uncut, SKY and Just Seventeen. Rob Biddulph ist eine überaus kreative, phantasievolle und spannungsgeladene Geschichte gelungen, in der man in jeder Zeile die Liebe zur Kunst spüren kann. Fast beiläufig wird Sachwissen in die Geschichte eingeflochten. Die Kapitel sind kurz gehalten, so dass auch lesefaulere Kinder gut mit diesem Buch zurecht kommen. Allerdings ist das Kopfkino so überwältigend, dass man das Buch am liebsten nicht mehr aus der Hand legen möchte.

Die Geschichte ist sehr mitreißend geschrieben und sprüht nur so vor interessanten Einfällen und magischen Ideen, die sich alle rund ums Thema Bilder, Kunst und Zeichnen befassen. Dabei ist die Story abwechslungsreicht und es gibt einige spannende und unerwartete Wendungen. Das Ende der Geschichte hält einen Cliffhanger bereit und man kann es kaum erwarten den zweiten Teil zu lesen!
