Description
hallie piper (oof) is a not-like-other-girls lab-created disaster whose only two personality traits are having red hair and getting on my nerves. Wrong Number is one of my favorite rom-coms and I am so happy that Jack got his own book with the most perfect fmc Hallie. As the story progresses, Hallie and Jack pretend to be in a relationship with each other, and that’s when things really start to heat up. I don’t always enjoy a rom-com where the two main characters converse a lot of text messages, but in this case, I didn’t mind.
which is probably because i saw the characters as real people, with genuine feelings, rather than romance caricatures.
Hallie and Jack both start developing feelings for each other but what is the best course of action? Both of them (but mostly Hallie I think) had been deliberately not thinking about it but there’s nothing much they can do when they’re spending pretty much every moment together, pretending to be together, sharing a room. It was so laugh out loud funny, and I don't normally burst out with laughter from books -but obv Lynn Painter has magic and I'm under her spell. And Jack is such a GUY - yes he’s sweet and falling in love and struggling with that, but he could be a bit of a jerk. Because as they pretend to be a couple, they struggle to remember why dating for real was a bad idea to begin with.
jack and hallie kept using the excuse ‘oh we slept together so that’s probably why we’re attracted to each other, it’s in our biology’ to excuse their obsessive and unnecessary behaviour towards each other.
The best way to sum up my feelings about this book is: it's like dating a guy who's a total wildcard.
