While We Stand, We Fight: Identify the 3 highest point-cost models in your army. For each of those 3 models that are alive at the end of the battle, score 5 points. Whoo boy, this secondary can be super good if you have the right army list. Depending on what those 3 models are in your list is whether or not this becomes risky. For example, if your 3 most costly models are a Telemon, Trajann, and a Shield Captain, you are in a pretty good place to safely take this, since they will be very hard to kill. If your 3 models are 3 Caladius tanks, this is a lot more risky. All in all, this is currently my favorite in category (Telemon, Trajann, Vexilla in my list) since it is an easy 10 to 15 points. (Really good, with the right list.) In doing so, these organisations also relinquished some of their military strength. The Legiones Astartes were divided into far smaller Chapters of a thousand Space Marines each during the Second Founding.

Those Custodian Guard known as the Companions -- the three hundred warriors charged with the direct defence of the Emperor on the Golden Throne -- remain by His side, just as the colossal edifice of Building an Adeptus Custodes army means building a tough force that will look almost comically tiny on the battlefield – but you need to remember: each of your models is a hero. Custodes also have a theme, reflected in both detachment rules and on their datasheets. A lot of their units and abilities provide a buff all the time, and a once-per-game super move, reflecting the supreme ability of the Ten Thousand to rise to a challenge when it matters. This is super cool – in my opinion, it does a good job of capturing the flavour of the army, a significant improvement on 9th. Detachment Ability – Aegis of the Emperor

Adeptus Custodes 9th Edition codex

Near-immortal are the Adeptus Custodes, for the golden elixir of the Emperor's own blood runs in their veins. Though outwardly resplendent, there is a scar upon the soul of the Custodian Guard, an inescapable disgrace that has tainted their history and lives in the heart of every warrior, from fresh inductees to veterans over a thousand Terran years old. Adeptus Custodes Wardens seemed to really have gotten a glow up with the latest update. Take a look at the next unit that has people rushing out to find a few boxes. Adeptus Custodes are the most Imperial of the Imperial factions. Custodes are the elite of the elites, with stronger average individual models than any army in the game (save, perhaps, the big stompy bots of the Imperial Knights). Their impressive statlines and bespoke wargear give the Adeptus Custodes a real chance, even when they are badly outnumbered – and they usually are!. Strengths of the Army Inescapable Vengence, the stratagem to let Allarus snipe at characters, was updated to reflect the new Look out Sir rule. As with the other rules that allow you to ignore Look Out, Sir, it’ll no longer let us get around abilities like Cloud of Flies. Solar Watch has a very aggressive, infantry centric playstyle with a suite of mobility tools such as access to advance and charge, but further testing is required to see if the comparatively mediocre offense of the custodes infantry can support such an aggressive playstyle. I imagine that with bikes and dreadnoughts providing the punch, the solar watch infantry’s mobility can shine.

This is really the first time we’ve seen a rework (at least that has been released) of JOYTOY minis, so it’s really interesting. Plus, JOYTOY also revealed size comparisons for both the Adeptus Custodes and Sisters of Battle releases to other figures they have made. JOYTOY Custodes Rework & Size Comparisons Are you excited about the new JOYTOY Sisters of Battle and Adeptus Custodes action figures for Warhammer 40k? The kit can optionally build a Shield-Captain, who has a choice of 2 bare heads, a unique chest plate, unique shoulder pads and his own set of ceremonial robes – he is armed with the choice of castellan axe and guardian spear, and holds a misericordia. As well as this, 1 model can be assembled as a Vexilus Praetor – along with the standard weapon choices he carries a splendid ornate Vexilla.Rules: The Aegis of the Emperor adds an exemplary extra layer of resilience against Mortal Wounds, which get past their considerable armour.

HQ: Shield-Captain on Dawneagle Jetbike w/Interceptor Lance, Superior Creation, Relic: Auric Aquilis, Warlord Mutation, monstrosity, pogrom, disease and death unimaginable were let loose by the warlords' lust for conquest; such was Terra's long night. Just as a reminder – this review does not cover Forge World units. Custodes have, by volume, one of the biggest Forge World ranges out there, so a lot of this could change depending on what those units bring to the table, particularly in the area of anti-tank. Five Coolest Units Now that sovereign duty has changed. In Mankind's darkest hour, a legend has emerged from the annals of history -- the Ultramarines Primarch Roboute Guilliman, an icon of authority. The coming of this legendary High Lord has galvanised the Adeptus Custodes, and after long consultation, seen them reorganised and given new life. The golden brotherhood now numbers not only guardians, but also crusaders. Finally, Custodian Wardens now don’t just look cool, they gained the bodyguard rule preventing your opponent from shooting your characters while they’re within 3” of the Wardens. This allows cheeky plays such as putting the Wardens out of line of sight behind a wall and placing a character safely 3” away on an objective. Bodyguard is a great rule to have in 9th edition and now custodes have access to it.

Points Updates

Give thanks to those most courageous and loyal of guardians, the Adeptus Custodes, who stand in constant vigil over the Emperor's palace. A veritable legion of warriors ready to lay down their lives without doubt for the beloved ward of Mankind. None pass through the Imperial Palace without their knowledge; steeped are they in the arcane secrets of that labyrinthine edifice. Ten thousand blades await the call to arms; to defend against any threat, from without or within." No one knows for sure how many hidden coups, secret rebellions and misguided attempts at assassination the Adeptus Custodes have foiled. That their martial skills remain so sharp after ten thousand standard years, however, is evidence that they have not stood an idle vigil. They have been called the Emperor's right hand, for they act with His authority and fight in His name. Only now, as the threat of Chaos grows ever greater and takes its dreaded toll, does that gilded hand reach out and become an eagle's claw. The Custodian Guard are the talons of the Emperor unsheathed, and they will tear the corruption of Chaos from the Imperium no matter the cost. For millennia, the Adeptus Custodes have formed the unyielding core of the Emperor's multi-layered defences. Those Custodian Guard charged with the physical protection of the Master of Mankind spend every waking second devoted to their task, refining their warrior skills and constantly testing and updating their own strategies to ensure the sanctity of the Emperor's throne. They are His last line of defence against a hostile galaxy hell-bent on Humanity's destruction. If they fail in their task, the Imperium of Man will collapse from the inside out. Their duty is so sacred, their reputation so profound, that even Space Marines and Inquisitors kneel before them.

The Custodes make the other figures look tiny, but this is probably how it should be! They also did a great job with the Sisters of Battle figure as she is slightly smaller than the Space Marine but bigger than the Guardsman. A Custodian Warden of the ancient Legio Custodes armed with a Guardian Spear. This particular member was drawn from the Warders of the Vaults of Rython and deployed as a part of the Censure Host during the Burning of Prospero. The Adeptus Custodes are the Auric Mortalis ("The Golden Death"), the dread guardians and only living beings permitted to be in the presence of the Emperor unencumbered. Now ensconced deep within the Sanctum Imperialis of the Inner Palace on Terra, they continue their eternal watch over the recumbent form of the Emperor upon the Golden Throne. Fearing the consequences of such dread remnants of the Age of Strife falling into the wrong hands, the Shadowkeepers at last sent warriors out into the galaxy. Not since the dark times of the Horus Heresy, when several sodalities of Shadowkeepers deployed as a part of the Prosperine Censure Host during the Burning of Prospero, has this Shield Host deployed en masse. Shield Host-wise, I would recommend Shadow Keepers. Grim Resolve used on bikers is a big durability boost, S4 (Marine bolter spam anyone?) is now only wounding on 6s, S6 (Riptides with burst, Knights with Gatling) is now wounding on 5s, S7 (Lootas, Caladius with Iliastus) is wounding on 4s. Additionally it similarly helps out of Grav tanks in the same manner, though you only get to use it on one unit per phase, so choose wisely. Solar Watch using the Sally Forth Warlord Trait allows for an extremely aggressive move by bikes, allowing them to advance 21″ and still fire hurricane bolters at -1 to hit, in theory this allows you to decimate an opponents front line screens right away, and sets you up to charge into the heart of their forces (with a Stooping Dive in your opponents charge phase, if they are unable or unwilling to move away). While this is an bold move (which makes me like it more), I am not sure how well it will pan out in competitive play. Blended list

At the climax of the Horus Heresy, the Custodian Guard fought monstrosities without number, for those in the Traitor Legions powerful enough to reach the gates of the Imperial Palace were twisted body and soul by the baleful gifts of Chaos. A thousand victories were won by the Custodian Guard, but they all turned to ash when the Master of Mankind teleported aboard Horus' flagship, the Vengeful Spirit, at the height of the Siege of Terra. There, a strike force of Legio Custodes fought the fiercest of Traitors to protect their master. They were found wanting.
