Description

I wanted a retelling of this myth that is both contemporary, culturally relevant (to me) and redresses the wrong done to Persephone.

Together with the way Chika Unigwe sets up her characters, the writing style is another aspect I think is really very strong. It was easy to follow and read fast, without losing the beauty in the language. Again: beautiful!

First, take into account your child's body type. Are they long and lean with a small waist? Do they have more curves in their figure? Do they have big thighs or big bottoms? These are all factors that will dictate the size of the dress that is right for them. Do not let the pretty cover deceive you. This book will traumatize you in ways you didn't know was possible. The remainder of the novel concerns Nani’s efforts to get away from her captor. There’s a hitch, of course, and a big one: she needs to wrest her children from her husband. Nani’s sister, Ugo, has re-entered the picture at this point, just before fleeing to the US with Mother. The two will return to Nigeria when the investigation into Mother’s illicit business activities dies down. In the meantime, these two are urging Nani to come to the US without the kids. Annual Young Artist Awards – Nominations / Special Awards". Young Artist Awards. Archived from the original on October 12, 2013 . Retrieved May 11, 2013. THE MIDDLE DAUGHTER is a hard, hard read. Equally hard to understand, for anyone, is Nani's decision to stay with her husband.

Absorbing and tender, Chika Unigwe's The Middle Daughter is a finely-drawn portrait of a young woman's resilience in the face of violence and grief’ PAULA HAWKINS Nani is engrossed in her grief and numb to the advancement of the people in her life who are “successfully” navigating their pain. Her desire for visibility through subtle acts of rebellion leaves her vulnerable and creates the domino that upends her life. She experiences debilitating levels of scarcity, deprivation, and violence till she shatters like a clay pot left to burn in the kiln for too long. Critics' Choice Awards Nominations". Deadline.
