The ancient Manor of Harefield was held by the Newdigate family from about 1440. The old Manor house, Harefield Place, adjacent to St Mary the Virgin church, was replaced in 1786, when a new mansion house was built at Harefield Lodge. The old 'Harefield Place' fell into disrepair and was demolished in 1813, whereupon the new Manor house became known as Harefield Place. It was sold by Charles Newdigate Newdegate in 1877. In 1938 it was acquired by the local authority to serve as a hospital. In 1959 the land was redeveloped and is now the Harefield Place Golf Club. The Local Democracy Reporting Service (LDRS) took a trip to the hospital, only a five-minute walk from the village’s minuscule town centre. Despite catching many doctors and nurses in the canteen, it was clear the strength of feeling about ULEZ was not so strong amongst hospital staff as it was in Harefield at large. Judge Sir Richard Newdigate (1602–1678), lived in Harefield, and was buried in Harefield parish church, where a monument was raised to his memory

Heart surgeons are performing more and more procedures that are less invasive; on the other hand, interventional cardiologists are undertaking more procedures in the catheter lab. The construction of the Grand Junction (now Grand Union) Canal on the western side of the parish at the end of the 18th century changed the character of this part of Harefield. During the First World War a hospital was established at the mansion latterly known as Harefield Park for the treatment of injured Australians and New Zealanders. Many of those who died at the hospital are buried in the churchyard of St Mary’s Harefield, where they are commemorated by a memorial arch and a granite obelisk. In 2018, we performed the world first minimally invasive mitral valve, aortic valve and CABG – all in the same operation.Hovering on the edge of open countryside, signs warning drivers that they are currently in the ULEZ are plastered everywhere. Perhaps this is a precaution for people who could be fooled into thinking that the village sits outside London and as an act of reinforcement, the signs showing that ULEZ is here to stay to members of a population vehemently opposing it. Harefield is home to Harefield United Football Club, which was founded in 1868 and is the oldest in Middlesex. [9] The Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF), a number of directors of Watford Football Club, and the London Borough of Hillingdon worked together to seek to bring about a significant improvement in educational and health standards. The School is set in the village of Harefield on the edge of the green belt and is adjacent to the commencement of agricultural land. D. MILLS. "Harefield." A Dictionary of British Place-Names. 2003. I believe we perform more minimally invasive cardiac procedures than anywhere else in the UK. Why minimally invasive? Generally, in terms of considering patients for minimally invasive surgery, I don’t just think of it in terms of age, but of overall fitness, suitability for the procedure and, of course, people’s wishes. But you don’t have to be young – I operate on patients in their 80s and 90s – the results are usually very good. Beating heart surgery She was one of the thousands of people who showed up in Central London to protest ULEZ’s expansion, attending marches on three separate occasions. However, she said she knew, even at the time, that it was unlikely to change the Mayor’s mind. Patients recovering faster with fewer complications mean healthier people, being able to live active lives for longer. In terms of risks, statistically there is 0.05 per cent chance of a stroke, and a mortality risk of less than 2 per cent – and the promise of an excellent long-term outcome. The Harefield Academy replaced the John Penrose School in September 2005. The new academy is an age 11 to 18 school with accommodation for 750 students aged 11 to 15 and a further 250 post-16 students. Alexander Fleming (1881–1955), biologist and Nobel Prize winner for the discovery of penicillin, was Regional Pathologist at Harefield Hospital, 1939; this is recorded on a blue plaque at the main entrance door to the hospital Neolithic remains have been found in the parish, as well as fossils in the chalk. Notwithstanding the ‘hare of Harefield’ shown in the picture above, the settlement’s name probably derives from the Old English words here (army) and feld (open space; field). The name may thus allude to an encampment by a Viking army during the Danish invasions of the 10th and early 11th centuries. Karoline says ULEZ has cemented her as a third-party voter. She told LDRS that she always voted Tory until Boris Johnson took power but would never give Labour her vote. “I still use my vote but I’ll vote for someone else like the Green Party or even the Lib Dems, the sit on the fence Liberals, but I wouldn’t go with either of those two [Labour or Tory] - you can see what they have done to us already.” And those against it are taking action. Cameras have been cut down, tipped over, covered and otherwise obstructed.
