Description

Kindred Bravely has one of the most inclusive size ranges on the market for maternity and nursing bras. This brand is frequently referenced by moms-to-be and nursing moms in the What to Expect community with larger breasts, who say it was one of the few retailers to offer a comfortable maternity or nursing bra in their size. The brand’s bras are available in multiple size ranges: Regular (cups B to D) and Busty (from E to H). But some styles, this one included, have extended sizing up to a K cup. Wearing you best-fitting, unpadded bra, snugly measure high under the arms around and above the breasts to determine the chest size in inches. Make sure the tape is horizontal the entire way around your body and do not pull the tape too tightly. Round up to the nearest even size. This is your band size (in inches). For a discreet nursing and pumping bra, the Auden All-in-One bra takes the cake because the top layer has removable pads that hide the telltale lines of the pump access holes on the inner layer. What’s more, the nylon and spandex fabric feels nice against the skin and holds up well in the washer without sacrificing color quality. With its contoured shoulder straps, the underwire-free nursing and pumping bra is also sturdy and supportive. “The shoulder straps are contoured (but not in a frumpy way) to help distribute the weight and strain of engorged breasts and pumping bottles—that feature sets it apart from other options,” explained our tester, who wore the bra around her home, running errands, and even during a light workout.

Bravado Designs Hands-Free Pumping Bra: While this pumping bra clips onto a nursing bra, it was tough to get flanges in the figure-eight openings, and they didn’t fit tight enough on our tester for pumping. We tested 13 bras from the top brands and assessed them by wearing them day in and day out (even overnight) with a variety of hands-free and portable breast pumps for several months. We evaluated them for their fit, comfort, support, accessibility and breast pump compatibility, material, and their overall aesthetics (because even when you're pumping, you still want to wear a cute bra!). Nursing experts and IBCLCs we spoke to stressed the importance of comfort and support without compression to help you avoid a clogged duct or, worse, nasty case of mastitis.

FAQs

After R was born, I rarely wore strapless bras. In roughly nine months, I had gone from a 32A to a D cup size. My boobs felt heavy, huge, and frankly, I wasn’t sure what to do with them. I couldn’t stand the feeling of going bra-less, even to bed. So a strapless bra always felt, well… horrible. Not nearly supportive enough. The pullover style is generally found on nursing sleep bras and feature easy pull aside nursing access in a stretchy fabrication. Popular styles include the Sara, Sonata and Erika bras. Front Opening Nursing Bras

While our tester loved the material of this bra, she noted that the silky texture could be problematic when it comes to absorbing a sudden let down or leaking drops of milk. Also, the convenient pumping slits aren’t hidden and the outlines can be seen through a thinner shirt. We get it: All that gear your newborn needs can add up, so it can be tempting to want to skip out on buying a special bra just for breastfeeding. But if you're a busy new mom, finding the right hands-free pumping bra is worth it, making you feel more comfortable and reducing stress by helping you multitask like a pro. Whether you're looking for something that you can comfortably spend all day in (and even wear to work!) or something that can be easily slipped on and off when needed, our list features a hands-free pumping bra that will be a perfect fit for your lifestyle. When shopping for a pumping bra, it's important to not that it's not a one-size-fits-all approach, so you'll want to find one that offers the correct amount of support, comfort and versatility for your needs. Nursing bras have a few different mechanisms for easy breastfeeding access: pull aside, front opening, or drop down clips. Pull Over Nursing Bra We love that this everyday bra is available in sizes that can fit busts from 30B to 44I, and each bra comes with an expander, making it a size-inclusive option.

Fact-Checking Standards

It is best to hand wash your LLLI bras and allow them to hang dry. Although you might want the ease of machine washing and drying, this is the fastest way to ruin a bras' construction. Staying active during and after pregnancy is usually both safe and encouraged (within the bounds set by your doctor). Whether you like a brisk walk in the park with your baby in tow or an hour to yourself in the gym, a quality nursing sports bra like this one from Ingrid and Isabel will support your breasts while allowing easy feeding access for your tot. Made of supremely stretchy, ribbed fabric, this full-coverage sports bra has a one-handed clasp that allows you to pause your workout and easily feed your sweetie. Mums-to-be and mums of newborn babies do not have to go through the discomfort that regular bras bring. We hope that our guide helped you in identifying some of the best bras that are available in the UK and how you can choose one for yourself. Testing Notes: “It is designed as a sports bra, but I wore it throughout the day—and even when sleeping. The stretch of the material and full coverage makes it very comfortable.”

Support: During pregnancy and while nursing, La Leche League International (LLLI), an organization that provides education and support to breastfeeding mothers worldwide, recommends looking for bras that are well-fitting and supportive but not restricting, as too-tight fabrics could contribute to pain or clogged milk ducts. We chose maternity bras that offer enough support but won’t be overly tight and prioritized styles that deliver sufficient support without using underwire. Wearing underwire bras is a personal choice during pregnancy (some moms-to-be find they hate the feeling, but others appreciate the extra support underwire provides), although La Leche League International recommends avoiding underwire at least during the early months of nursing, at which point you’re more prone to plugged ducts. Because of this, we ensured that each maternity bra on our list is underwire-free. Take your measurement from step 2 and subtract your band size measurement from step 1. This measurement, along with the following chart, will help determine your cup size: As it is with any clothing, especially bras, it is extremely important to make sure that you buy the right size. For maternity bras, you must go for bras that are adjustable enough that you do not have to buy new bras every next month. This means that you should buy a bra that has the right cup size. Depending upon how you like it you can go for padded or non-padded bras. It is also advisable that the bras that you buy should have minimal styling to maximize comfort. That being said if you find a bra that is both extremely stylish and extremely comfortable, you should go for it. 3. AdjustabilityWhen it comes to all of the best features of a nursing bra, the Hatch Everyday Nursing Bra is truly the gold standard. Made of breathable and buttery soft and stretchy Pima cotton and spandex blend, your breasts will feel supported, not suffocated. Our tester, a mom of two little ones, felt like the super-soft material was outstanding and lent to the easy, adjustable fit and rated it a 5 for both attributes. She described the material of the cups as soft and flexible, an essential feature as breasts fluctuate in size throughout your breastfeeding journey.

Through it all, this bra did its job and was basically invisible underneath her clothes. Rating it a 5 for value, our tester noted that this nursing bra was so comfortable that she would wear it even after she is done nursing. Testers used the bras for three pumping sessions, for as long as they typically pump. They were asked to wear the bra approximately 30 minutes before pumping and at least 30 minutes afterward to determine comfort, fit, and support. Additionally, when possible, testers used two types of breast pumps (including hands-free, wireless, or manual) to examine accessibility. Testing Notes: “It's the type of bra I'd want to wear on a long flight. And if you have to flash a bit of bra in public to breastfeed, it's absolutely beautiful, thanks to the quality lace.” While our tester rated this bra highly for its comfort and lounge-worthy material, it doesn’t offer much in the support department, which is why we rated a 2.5 for that attribute. But when it comes to sleeping, the more relaxed fit gives your breasts the space to move and shift while you toss and turn between feedings.Testing Notes: “Unlike many sleep bras, which are pullover style, this one has hook/clasp. Since I pump at night (before bed), this feature made it easy to take it off and switch it with a pumping bra.” Made in the same luxurious fit and feel fabric is our Maternity Underwear. Pair your maternity bras with matching underwear for a beautiful intimate set that's super versatile and will still be wearable after giving birth. After testing 21 nursing and pumping bras over the course of four months, we evaluated each one for comfort level, how well it fit, ease of access, material quality, and support. A lactation consultant on our Review Board also reviewed the contents of this article for accuracy and integrity surrounding nursing bras, and the features to consider when evaluating them. We clearly love this bra, but the only downside is that it is an investment when compared to the other options on our list. and below: We don't recommend pumping bras with this rating; you won't find any on our list.
