About this deal

Altman touches the Marker and realizes that the hallucinations telling them to stay away from the Marker and to prevent Convergence were, in fact, not from the artifact but rather from an opposing force that had been ingrained in the human brain. The writing is solid, so much so that even readers who are not familiar with the source material can and will enjoy the read. This prequel novel is set on Earth and details the rise of Michael Altman, the "founder" of the Unitology religion seen throughout the games. I don't know if this is one of his better books, but it's an incredible display of versatility that not many authors could pull off.

The seemingly limitless energy provided by the Black Marker signal, which was repeatedly stated in the lore after Martyr to be of interest to humanity due to the ongoing resource crisis, is never mentioned or alluded to in the novel, nor is the aforementioned crisis; instead, Markoff initially shows interest in the Marker due to its potential for weapons manufacturing. The story revolves around geophysicist Michael Altman as he investigates the source of a mysterious signal and uncovers a strange alien artifact.Hysterical to the point of insanity, Hennessy cracks, and easily beats Dantec to death (despite him being light built and the latter a seasoned veteran of the moon skirmishes, which was a small scale warfare on the moon over which of the world's countries would be able to harvest the moon's resources).

One of the first sequences in the book involves a child finding a not-quite-dead creature washed up on the shore of the ocean. All throughout Martyr, the hallucinations experienced by the characters are openly opposed to the Marker and its plans, actively helping humans prevent Convergence and warning them about the dangers of studying the Marker. Honestly, I'd rather have another 20 years of this ugly, menacing, utterly, utterly depressing universe than another 10 minutes of Star Wars, but what do I know?

Aber es ist eben der Teil, der spannend ist, den man gerne liest, in dem endlich anderer Horror in der Fantasie des Lesers Einzug erfährt - und damit verdammt gut funktioniert! Of all the weapons in the cache, Altman takes a chainsaw (much to Chava's confusion), and goes back to the floating facility over the crater. During the dive, Hendricks cracks and tries to kill him, but Altman fends him off and salvages the bathyscaphe, also seeing a Necromorph fish. When geophysicist Michael Altman hears of the mysterious signal emitted from deep within the Chicxulub crater, he joins a team excavating the underwater crater.however for the book this wasn't the case and I found it hard to get a feel of what it would be like to actually be in Altmans shoes.
