Description

This book is the niche book for those suffering from a dog with more energy and more excitement than them. She was given recognised teacher status up to level 6 in canine related subjects by Hull University. What we do with these dogs, certainly what I do with my working dogs, is I'm developing cognitive skills, and that takes time.

This webinar is to help owners of both pet and competition dogs get the best out of them, both in general day-to-day life and in competition and sports.I always say to people, after twenty years of trying to motivate Leonbergers, I just got a Cocker Spaniel instead.

We don’t share your credit card details with third-party sellers, and we don’t sell your information to others. Jane is a leading dog trainer and behaviourist in the UK, who specialises in issues concerning working and performance dogs. But do you sometimes wish you could reign in some of that enthusiasm and produce the results that you both deserve?Do you want talk a little bit about what the webinar will cover, so people can get a sense of what you'll be talking about? I think in all dogs, really, they come with these traits, and the environment switches on these genes, and then the dog just behaves impulsively, based upon its genetics. She was great to train because she was always busy, she always wanted to do things, she always wanted to learn.

What we're really doing is teaching impulse control, which is a cognitive skill where we're trying to harness and teach the animal how to manage itself, how to control its impulses, how to manage its own emotions. the book has inspired me greatly and i only hope that i get to meet work with and be trained by Jane Arden one day soon. Instead of relying on old-fashioned metho ds of coercion, author Jane Ardern, KCAI dog trainer of the year, has devised an emotionally-centred, choice-based training programme to tackle these issues.

And so I ended up with this little dog who was just wanting to do things all the time, so I struggled with her being able to settle to switch off. Mission Control is essential reading for trainers and handlers in all sporting disciplines, and for those who simply want to get the best from their companion dogs. It has a substantial section explaining theory and concepts before getting into the practical exercises.

You mentioned before we started recording — when you say you're out training them, you mean literally you're on a training getaway this week, right? I thoroughly enjoyed reviewing it, and often recommend this book to clients with high drive/high energy dogs who are looking for further/supporting info. There's people training using other animals to teach self control in a realistic setting and people who hate that.

So the book is very much about my experiences with my dogs, and what they've taught me and what I've learned. When you took them home, they were really hard work, because they had that presence and they were usually full on and drive-y. Jane is a member of the Coape Association of Pet Behaviourists and Trainers (CAPBT), The Association of Pet Dog Trainers (APDT UK) Membership no. So really the webinar is looking into the difference between a working dog ready for action, doing waiting but ready for action, and a dog relaxing, because a lot of the working dogs struggle with the relaxation aspect in life. I live in the city, so it's quite challenging for me to get opportunity to expose them to a working environment.
