About this deal

When the hose is retracted it measures just over 8ft and when fully expanded it measures about 24ft making it the smallest hose on this list. This is almost three times the size of the hose therefore, you can be sure that you have enough room to move around. It may not be the longest in this review but it makes up for it in the quality of material used. That said, some care needs to be taken around thorny plants and spikey gravel – despite its strong construction, it’s still not completely puncture proof! Here we cover some of the frequent and common sense questions put to us. I was surprised at how many requests I’ve had so shall begin to build you an FAQ here over the coming months. Hope this helps 🙂 Can I join two expandable hoses together? The spray gun itself isn’t bad either. Nothing overly exciting but it has 8 different settings as well as a brass connector. You’ll need a 3/4 inch fitting to attach it and there’s even extra washers, these guys are pretty serious about reducing the amount of leaks. I know what you are thinking, plastic fittings…mmmm… And I have to admit that I am also usually very dubious about any gardening/watering tools that use anything other than solid brass. It has to be said, however, that these plastic fittings actually do a very good job of staying connected and not leaking too much. They work far better than I expected them too and it was a very pleasant surprise.

The first thing you’re going to notice is just how nice the hose feels in your hand. You could be mistaken for thinking it’s a cloth like material! And it get’s better. When you compare it directly to it’s main competitors the Ansio and the FIT, this is definitely equal in quality; the brass hose connectors, quality kink free hose, and all the accessories you need to get going such as half inch reducers for smaller garden taps. Note, most taps are 3/4 these days but again it’s a nice touch. There are a few issues though, but before we get going let’s have a look at my short video setting this up and getting it going / using it: Expands from 17ft to the maximum 50ft providing you with room to move comfortably in smaller gardens. But getting to the crux of the test – the hose flexibility. I have to say when these first arrived in the UK they were pretty spindly. Since testing and R & D has happened they are now three layers of flexi PVC – this is a long way forward from where they were right at the beginning. The level of power provided by this hose is excellent, especially compared to other expandable models, and it comes with an 8-setting spray head – it’s just as useful for washing the car as it is for watering the plants. When you’re running water into the hose, make sure the hose has room to expand fully. It expands only gradually so there’s not too much concern about doing this around children. It’s a cool process to watch.

If you have a large, sprawling garden with lots of trees and shrubs to manoeuvre around, I would recommend choosing one of the more durable products on offer. I say this because you will be dragging your hose a long way, and it will need a strong outer webbing to be able to withstand this type of terrain.A good expandable hose can be a smart buy if you’re someone that gets frustrated with having to manhandle heavy rubber hoses, twisting out kinks and trying to find a good space to store them, but there are a few things to know before you make your purchasing decision.

The length of the hose matters depending on the area of coverage. If you have a large area to cover then you obviously need a long hose. If you have a small space to cover then a short hose will work well. You can always settle for a longer hose if you are not sure if the short hose will be effective in years to come. You might move to a larger place and require a longer hose. The only downside of buying a longer hose than needed is you do loose a little pressure the longer the hose is. But keep in mind that if you look after your expandable hose well, you’ll increase its lifespan. How do I maintain and store my expandable hose to ensure its longevity and prevent damage? As I mentioned above in the testing section, you can see this will expand miles but 12 metres was very comfortable, and what’s the point of pushing it? The hose itself folds down into such a small space I hardly see any need to over extend myself, not when there are 22 and 30 m options on the table as well. When it’s at-rest, an expandable hose is only one-third of the size that it reaches when water flows through it. A regular garden hose is always the same large size. The smaller size of the expandable hose makes it easier to roll up and store. Lightweight The best expandable hoses (such as the HmiL-U one in this review) last 1000-1500 uses. This is the top end of durability. Owing to their construction, some expandable hoses wind up being pretty heavy. If you’re after something particularly lightweight, the HOSE-PRO Expandable Garden Hose is a great option to consider.
