Regaine for Men Extra Strength Scalp Solution 5% w/v Cutaneous Solution is for external use only. Do not apply to areas of the body other than the scalp Storage conditions: Keep container tightly closed. Keep out of sight and reach of children. Store below 25°C. The optimum dose for hair loss is not entirely clear. It may be in the region of 0.625mg to 2.5 mg daily. For men, a slightly higher dose may sometimes be required. You may be asked to take the medication daily or every other day. Temporary shedding. Temporary shedding is very common at the onset of starting oral or topical Minoxidil. This side effect occurs within the first 6 weeks and can be of significant concern. However, it is important to continue with the medication as this will stop after 4 weeks.

The key thing to bear in mind when using Minoxidil is that any positive effects upon hair loss will be reserved once you stop treatment. Typically, hair loss will resume as normal after three to four months of ceasing treatment with Minoxidil. For this reason, Minoxidil should not be thought of as a hair loss cure, but as a temporary solution. Accidental ingestion may cause serious cardiac adverse events. Therefore this product has to be kept out of the reach of children. You may also benefit from joining a support group, or speaking to other people in the same situation on online forums. The patient should stop using Regaine for Men Extra Strength Scalp Solution 5% w/v Cutaneous Solution and see a doctor if hypotension is detected or if the patient is experiencing chest pain, rapid heart beat, faintness or dizziness, sudden unexplained weight gain, swollen hands or feet or persistent redness or irritation of the scalp or other unexpected new symptoms occur (see section 4.8).. Animal reproduction toxicity studies in rats and rabbits have shown signs of maternal toxicity and a risk to the foetus at exposure levels that are very high compared to those, intended for human exposure. A low, albeit remote, risk of foetal harm is possible in humans.Assessment was undertaken by patients using a 100mm visual analogue scale and assessing scalp coverage where point 0 represented much less scalp coverage, 50mm no difference and 100mm much more scalp coverage. In addition, an assessment was undertaken by 2 blinded reviewers who compared photographs taken at baseline and after 48 weeks. Differences were assessed using a 7 point categorical scale viz: It may take twice daily applications for 2 months or more before evidence of hair growth can be expected. It is helpful to cut down on alcohol as alcohol can also reduce blood pressure. It is also helpful to cut down on caffeine as caffeine can cause the heart to race and cause palpitations. Doses of oral Minoxidil Vañó-Galván, S. et al. Safety of low-dose oral minoxidil for hair loss: A multicenter study of 1404 patients. J Am Acad Dermatol 2021; 84: 1644–1651.

Doses of minoxidil for hair loss are considered ‘low dose’. This is because the doses used for hair loss are a lot lower than the doses which are used for conditions such as hypertension. The doses used for hypertension are 10-40mg per day. Brand of oral Minoxidil – Loniten Not recommended. The safety and effectiveness of Regaine for Men Extra Strength Scalp Solution 5% w/v Cutaneous Solution in children and adolescents below the age of 18 years or adults over 65 years has not been established. Topical minoxidil is only indicated for the treatment of alopecia androgenetica and should not be used in other types of hair loss for example when there is no family history of hair loss, hair loss is sudden and/or patchy, hair loss is due to childbirth, or the reason for hair loss is unknown.

Ankle swelling and fluid retention. Swelling of the lower legs can occur in up to 3% people. This is usually at higher doses. Fluid retention can also sometimes show up around the eyes as puffy eyes, which are worse in the morning. Vañó-Galván et al showed that 1.3% get ankle swelling (25% of these individuals stop treatment), and 0.3% experience swelling around the eyes (0% need to stop treatment for this). Increased systemic absorption of minoxidil may potentially occur if higher-than-recommended doses of Regaine for Men Extra Strength Scalp Solution 5% w/v Cutaneous Solution are applied to larger surface areas of the body or areas other than the scalp. The failure to detect evidence of systemic effects during treatment with Regaine solution reflects the poor absorption of topically applied minoxidil from normal intact skin. Systemic absorption of minoxidil from topically applied solution ranges between 1% and 2% of the total applied dose. Minoxidil foam and minoxidil solution are topical treatments, which means that you apply them to the area that you want to treat.

be careful not to allow Minoxidil to get on to any other parts of your body or surfaces such as pillows If you have a reaction to minoxidil, stop using it and speak to your GP or pharmacist. For the full list of side effects, read the patient information leaflet that comes with your medicine. The method of application will differ depending on whether you are using lotion or foam, but the basic technique is to apply a small amount (usually 1ml) very carefully to areas of the scalp affected by balding and to massage it into the skin. If you are using liquid minoxidil, it is likely that you will be provided with an applicator to make the process easier and more accurate. Until larger, more statistically sophisticated studies are carried out, oral Minoxidil for hair loss will remain unlicensed in the UK. This means that you can only receive a prescription from a doctor who has experience in using this medication and who has assessed you to deem the benefits outweigh the risks. You must also take the time to read the information on unlicensed medications (such as this fact sheet) and agree that you feel the benefits outweigh the risks.

Minoxidil is applied directly to the scalp, in the areas where you've experienced hair loss. It's available as a foam or a liquid. Different brands and strengths have different usage instructions, so always read the patient information leaflet carefully. Minoxidil comes as a lotion, liquid or foam, normally in a strength of 2% or 5%. The higher concentration is usually only recommended for use by men and is labelled by Regaine as Extra Strength for Men. To have any positive effect upon hair loss, minoxidil must be applied at least once a day, every day for as long as treatment is desired. Hands should be washed thoroughly after applying the solution. Inhalation of the spray mist should be avoided. Because of the concentration of minoxidil in Regaine for Men Extra Strength Scalp Solution 5% w/v Cutaneous Solution, accidental ingestion has the potential of producing systemic effects related to the pharmacological action of the drug (2 ml of Regaine for Men Extra Strength Scalp Solution 5% w/v Cutaneous Solution contains 100 mg minoxidil; the maximum recommended adult dose for oral minoxidil administration in the treatment of hypertension). Signs and symptoms of minoxidil overdosage would primarily be cardiovascular effects associated with sodium and water retention. Tachycardia, hypotension, dizziness and lethargy can also occur. You can use minoxidil alongside prescription treatments, find out more in our Finasteride and minoxidil guide. The systemic absorption of minoxidil from a 5% solution formulation has been estimated in a pharmacokinetic study in subjects with androgenetic alopecia, which included 5% topical foam as a comparator. This demonstrated that in men, the systemic absorption of minoxidil from twice daily application of 5% minoxidil solution was about twice that, as observed with 5% minoxidil foam. The mean steady state AUC (0-12 hr) and Cmax for 5% minoxidil foam, 8.81 ng·hr/mL and 1.11 ng/mL, respectively, were both approximately 50 % of AUC (0-12 hr) and Cmax of the 5% solution, 18.71 ng·hr/mL and 2.13 ng/mL, respectively. The time to maximum minoxidil concentration (Tmax) for the 5% solution, 5.79 hr, was similar to Tmax for the 5% foam, 5.42 hr. Minoxidil is a medicine used to treat hereditary hair loss, which is also known as male pattern baldness or female pattern baldness Get hair aware & familiarise yourself with the side effects of taking minoxidil as a treatment for male & female pattern baldness Minoxidil treatments are applied once or twice daily to the same patches of scalp, sometimes for long periods of time.
