Another cool place where this integration is evident is when you’re watching a live show that’s also available via a streaming app. So for example, I’ll stumble across Doctor Who20 minutes after it had started – and the FVP-5000T will offer to start the show from the beginning – by loading it up directly from BBC iPlayer.

Another thing I particularly liked about the interface was the Global Search function. You search for the name of a show – and the device will look for it wherever it can – so on your hard drive (shows you’ve recorded), on the Electronic Programme Guide (so you can mark the show for future recording), AND on the catch-up apps (so you can watch it right now via the internet.) The Corsair iCUE 5000T RGB doesn’t just look like a premium PC case, but it feels like one too. At 32 pounds, it’s one of the sturdier cases I’ve ever used, and it gives the clear impression that all of your precious PC parts are well protected. The side fan mounts and hinged panels are great features, and the cable management is second-to-none when it comes to mid-tower cases. And with 208 RGB lights included, it will give you the colors of your dreams. That means you won’t be able to save them forever (BBC iPlayer, for example, keeps most shows for 30 days), AND you won’t be able to fast-forward and skip commercials on apps such as the ITV Hub or All 4. For instance, streaming platforms may remove content after a certain period, or they may not offer all the episodes of a particular series.I'm aware of the "+" button to skip to a day. This doesn't excuse the clumsiness and snail-like pace of doing the most common operation on an EPG when browsing - i.e. scrolling left or right. This is the most common operation, which those people less technically literate (such as old people) will rely upon.

Another nice touch is the “Smart” HD switching and recording. If you’re watching (or recording) an SD channel that also has an HD version, the device will offer you, on-screen, to jump to the HD version. When Brian May plays his solo at the end of the piece, it’s like he’s making his guitar sing. Again, the sense of place is captured brilliantly in a credible rendition of the sound of the old Wembley Stadium full of 72,000 people clapping in time and singing along to Radio Ga Ga. You can also set different fan curves to different component temps. I set up the top fan to adjust its RPM based on CPU temp, which should help out a little with keeping the VRM cool under load. Then I set the two lower fans to speed up in line with GPU temp, so as to keep it fed with fresh air when I'm gaming. You'll probably want to tweak the CPU and GPU fan curves a little just to keep things quite and generally in line with one another, but it's a fairly simply process in iCUE.

The FVP-5000T also connects to your broadband (via an Ethernet cable or WiFi – so you might want to consider either a Powerline Adapteror a WiFi extender), and then gives you access to the UK’s most popular streaming apps – BBC iPlayer, ITV and a few others – as well as a dedicated Netflix app. Speaking of RGB (again), behind the motherboard tray is where you’ll find the Corsair iCue Commander Core XT, a large RGB / fan hub. This is what brings this 5000T’s RGB goodness to life, along with it being a convenient fan hub, allowing for up to six fans (three more than the trio that’s included in the box) and six of Corsair’s RGB headers. That means you can’t plug devices with standard RGB headers into the case (at least without some unofficially supported conversion cable), but honestly, with three RGB fans and all the extra lights, you probably won’t feel the need to add even more lighting. However, the discontinuation was somewhat expected at this stage, given that the device lost support for ITV Hub in 2022 and never supported ITV’s new streaming service, ITVX. Whether you love it or hate it, RGB and PC hardware have been intertwined for years now, feeding off each other, and increasing sales in the process. Because of this, ther market for RGB-flooded battle stations isn’t likely to vanish anytime soon.

Provides a pleasant and breezy building experience with its CORSAIR RapidRoute Cable Management System, removable front and roof airflow panels, and tool-free hinged side panels. The discontinuation was part of Manhattan’s strategy to make way for its next-generation Freeview boxes, the T4 and T4-R. The FVP-5000T is an impressive Freeview recording box that does most of what you could hope for. The advanced integration between the “live” Freeview channels and the catch-up apps, as part of the electronic guide, will be a game changer for some, combining both worlds for one smooth watching experience.

Goodbye, FVP-5000T

However, Humax has assured us that the device should be more widely available again in approximately two weeks. Goodbye, FVP-5000T Desktop drives are still supported in this chassis, but barely. It’s surprising that a case this big only allows for two 3.5-inch drives, so buyers with lots of storage beware on that front. SSD / 2.5-inch drive support is comparatively generous; you get three 2.5-inch drive sleds behind the motherboard tray and room to fit two more within the hard drive cage (if you aren’t installing bigger 3.5-inch drives. Cable Management of the Corsair iCue 5000T Lastly, there’s the inability to vertically mount a three-slot GPU, like the RTX 3090 FE. Yes, the 5000T is technically a mid-tower case, but there’s clearly enough real estate to allow for a vertical mount. Again, for the price of the case, that should be an option for users who prefer that aesthetic. Should you pay premium for the Corsair iCUE 5000T RGB?

The interface, however, is where my one main disappointment with the FVP-5000T lies – it’s slow. TOO slow for such a feature-rich (and expensive) device. You feel the lag with every press of a button – you have to wait for the guide to show up on the screen. You have to wait for programme information screens to show up. And you have to wait 2-3 loooong seconds whenever you switch a channel – which turns flipping-channels into a sluggish ordeal. While tenkeyless keyboards might be all the rage, for some of you only a true desk dominator will do, and this Corsair model is certainly that. A mighty giant of an input device, it features dedicated media keys, per-key RGB lighting with Corsair's iCUE RGB integration, and a simply massive wrist rest to make this a keyboard to end all others. It comes with a choice of Cherry MX switches too, so you really can have it all at a decent discount here. View Deal However, Manhattan is planning to launch two new Freeview boxes soon, the T4 and T4-R, although their release has been delayed.
