Even at max volume, the W-KING D8 delivers great clarity and is free of any distortion. You can crank this speaker up without worrying about your sound quality degrading. Sound Quality While the speaker drivers remain the same, the Qualcomm chipset that powers the speaker has been upgraded (the speaker uses Bluetooth 5.1), bumping the sound quality a tad, particularly at higher volumes, with better digital signal processing. It remains one of the best-sounding mini Bluetooth speakers, with richer, more tonally balanced sound than other Bluetooth speakers its size -- and it should sound good, considering its elevated price. At the default sound setting without bass boost or spatial audio engaged, I wasn't exactly wowed with sound quality (the bass is a bit underwhelming, the mids are recessed and there's a bit too much treble push). But as soon as you engage the bass boost and spatial audio, everything sounds more balanced and full. You can also tweak the sound profile further in the Soundcore companion app for iOS and Android. The base is coated in a soft plastic, with a matching layer on top of the body. Here, you’ll find the Soundcore logo in the middle of a circular, upward-firing speaker grille, with buttons for volume control and playing/pausing on the right and the power and Bluetooth buttons to the left, alongside toggles for the spatial audio and BassUp modes. Of course, this is all well and good but you'll also have to take into consideration how the speaker will look in your living room, music study or outdoor space. Some of the loudest Bluetooth speakers can, it has to be said, be a little on the plain side, with the majority of the energy involved going into how the blasted thing sounds. Fair enough!
Bluetooth speakers can be for the living room or portable – either way, we need them to be able to play hellishly loud without complaint. When choosing a Bluetooth speaker, what it really comes down to is size and price. If you're looking for a very portable speaker, you'll want to get something very compact, but remember that smaller speakers usually produce less sound and bass than larger ones. So while there are plenty of mini Bluetooth speakers that deliver bigger sound than you might expect, they do have their sonic limitations. For a lot of people it's a question of finding a speaker that's not too big or too small -- one that travels well but also is capable of producing good sound for its size. But finding the best portable Bluetooth speaker also comes down to your budget. Weighing 4.2 pounds (1.9 kg), it's got some heft to it, but it's light enough to carry around without feeling like you're getting a workout. I had no issues with volume while using the D8 outside, in the garage, or filling up the inside of the house with music. Clarity and DistortionThe D8 is rated at 50 watts output, 70 watts peak. Typical battery life will be up to 30 hours. That’s right in range with most other Bluetooth speakers in this price range. That gives you about 3 typical 8 hour shifts before needing a recharge. What I Liked The bass radiators really add a nice level of controlled bass to this speaker. It’s not too boomy. The sound quality is perfectly acceptable for a small portable Bluetooth speaker. You’re not going to get stereo separation or anything like that from this kind of speaker, so the most important quality is volume and not having distortion or sound quality degradation. Controls We also listen for ‘presence’. Bluetooth speakers can sound monophonic, with all their energy emanating from the same physical space. What we value is a wider soundstage, whether this is achieved through clever digital signal processing or an inventive driver/passive radiator configuration, it doesn’t really matter.The SoundBoks (Gen 3) matches the excellent 40 hours of battery from the last model at mid-volume, and it can be connected to your smartphone or tablet through Bluetooth 5.0. While it’s classed as a portable speaker, it’s still a heavy thing to lug around as it weighs in at a considerable 34lbs. But the good news is it features IP65 tech, so it’ll cope with rain and dust with no problems. One of the neat features that sets the D8 apart from other rugged portable Bluetooth speakers is the ability to pair with another D8 speaker to form a stereo pair. You could put one on each side of the shop and get more volume, bass, and sound coverage.

This equaliser allows you to save your own tunings alongside four preset profiles: Voice, Treble Boost, Balanced and the default Soundcore Signature. On the spatial audio front, the X600 doesn’t support Apple’s Spatial Audio, but instead features what Soundcore describes as its “Sky Channel Spatial Audio”. This uses the speaker’s up-firing driver and Soundcore’s audio algorithm to create a greater sense of space – particularly above you – and I found it worked well. Switching the mode on gave audio a more airy quality, pushing vocals and instrumentals further apart, giving each section more room to showcase fine details. Alas, Ultimate Ears, which is owned by Logitech, has not upgraded the charging port to USB-C. The speaker still charges with a Micro-USB cable, which is a bit of a bummer.

Another feature that has started to become common with Bluetooth speakers is the built in charge capability for USB devices. Plug your phone in via USB and charge it up. As a smart home device, users get the perks of software updates, plus the ability to connect to a whole host of other smart home devices. It’s worth noting that this speaker is designed for use within a home setting, not for outdoor use. The other cutting edge to this blade is that, once depleted, the battery takes quite a while to charge, with Soundcore stating that it will take around six hours to go from empty to full. Given battery life is meagre anyway, the Motion X600 could really do with some form of fast charging. Battery life is rated at up to 18 hours at 50% volume (the earlier A1 didn't live up to its battery life claims but this number is more accurate) and if you can afford it, you can link two A1 speakers to create a stereo pair. The speaker is waterproof with an IP67 rating, which means it can be submerged briefly in shallow water.
