About this deal

Video processing is something Philips takes great pride in and the new Gen 6 P5 processor offers up some very good upscaling of lower resolution content to the 4K native resolution of the panel. It can, at times, look a little over-processed and digitally sharp when using some of the out-of-the-box presets (although not Filmmaker Mode), with edges looking a little too processed with some light ringing and fine detail missing. Some faces can also look overly processed with added sharpening around pores and lines that looks unnatural. However, using the Filmmaker (FMM) or Expert modes and making sure most of the edge enhancement features are switched off provides you with a nicely detailed and natural-looking upscaled image with no artefacts. Native 4K content in FMM does look sublime as you would expect. Sound on the Philips OLED808 is something we're yet to test, so this section will be based on information from the manufacturer. We know that the OLED808 won't be getting the same 80W Bowers & Wilkins sound system as the more premium OLED908. Instead, it'll be getting a Philips-tuned speaker system. That'll be 70W on most models, with the 42-inch being the outlier with a 50W system instead. Philips hasn't shared much in the way of additional sound features, apart from eARC support. Approximate width of the display. If the manufacturer does not provide such information, the width is calculated from the diagonal and the aspect ratio. Power supply and consumption Information about the power supply and consumption, energy efficiency class, etc. 220V with Sonos Beam V2 connected on the HDMI2 eARC with HDMI cable provide by Sonos which support eARC. Ambilight is a proprietary Philips technology that extends the onscreen action onto the wall around the TV in the form of coloured light. Not only does it look fabulous, it increases perceived contrast and draws the eye more effectively into the action. If you can't tell, we're big fans. Philips’ new OLED807 is the first to adopt the new, brighter OLED EX panel and also uses the latest 6th gen P5 AI image processing suite. The Philips OLED707 has the same OLED panel, same 70W speaker system and same P5 AI processor as the flagship 807 (above). However, its Ambilight system is three-sided rather than four-sided.

An ultra-thin metal bezel and dark satin chrome metal feet lend this TV a real sense of style while the remote features shortcut buttons for your favourite streaming services. Last year, Philips moved to the MediaTek MT5895 SoC which is also found in this year's OLED807. Philips refers to it as MT9970B but it is more or less the same SoC found in Sony's Android TVs / Google TVs with similar HDMI 2.1 features. CPU/GPU performance is decent but cannot match an external box such as Nvidia Shield and is not close to matching Apple TV 4K. Gaming has not taken off on the Android TV platform so most users will most likely find it good enough for streaming and general use. The maximum number of colors, which the display is able to reproduce, depends on the type of the panel in use and color enhancing technologies like FRC. Since the 807 uses DTS Play-Fi wireless technology, it can be part of a high-resolution, multi-room audio setup and will easily connect to a soundbar, additional rear speakers, subwoofers and other compatible products via an app. The 807 also has the option of using the TV's speakers as a dedicated centre channel when in a multi-speaker configuration. The Philips OLED807 is a 4K (3,840 x 2,160) HDR smart TV that uses a 120Hz OLED panel with the latest AI-enhanced P5 perfect picture processing engine, the brand’s proprietary four-sided Ambilight rear-mounted LEDs, and support for Dolby Atmos object-based audio.

In terms of other gaming features, there’s support for HGiG and Dolby Vision HDR gaming, along with cloud gaming via Geforce Now. This TV supports Dolby's premium vision and sound system and allows you to enjoy a multi-dimensional, clear and deep sound experience for digital entertainment at home. And with DTS Play-Fi, you can connect to compatible speakers in any room. Philips has launched a new gallery function this year called Aurora. It is an app containing various wallpapers – both static and moving wallpapers – combined with Ambilight mood lighting. At launch, it is not possible to use your own photos but the company is looking into possibly enabling it, they told us earlier this year but stressed that they cannot promise anything. Aurora is not a screensaver or "off function" meaning that you must enable it manually unlike the gallery function found in Samsung The Frame and 2022 LG OLED TVs. It is instead more similar to the gallery function you find in slightly older LG TVs or Samsung "QLED" LCD models. Rising energy costs in Europe may make Aurora seem less attractive at this time and compared to Samsung's version in The Frame Aurora it seems less polished. Approximate diagonal size of the display. If the manufacturer does not provide such information, the diagonal is calculated from the width and height of the screen.
