The London Eye gets an unfair reputation as a tourist trap, but it’s one of the best ways to see London from ‘on high.’ Yes, you’ll encounter plenty of tourists as you line up to board a capsule on the 443-foot wheel — you’ll likely share your capsule with many of them as you spend 30 minutes on a single rotation of the wheel (the standard length for a ride aboard the Eye). Although the hotel faces the Eiffel Tower, only some of the rooms and suites will have a view of the Iron Lady. From the Shard, you can see the Sky Garden looming across the Thames. This thirty four story building has a glass-domed viewing area on the top of the building. You can get 360′ views by walking around the outer edges of the garden and, unlike the Shard, they also have an exterior viewing balcony on the south side of the garden. It's very unwheelchair friendly, which is a pity as the disabled should have the right to see one of the best places

Tips for visiting: Your best bet is to get to the base of the Monument as it opens and be first up the stairs. If you can’t manage that then go on a slightly grey and chilly day when other people are too sensible to want to stand 61 meters in to the sky looking down at London! The Monument is just down the street from the Sky Garden and you can easily do both in one outing. Bennett, Matthew (2001). Campaigns of the Norman Conquest. Essential Histories. Osprey Publishing. ISBN 978-1-84176-228-9. One of the earliest traditions associated with the Tower was that it was built by Julius Caesar; the story was popular amongst writers and antiquaries. The earliest recorded attribution of the Tower to the Roman ruler dates to the mid-14thcentury in a poem by Sir Thomas Gray. [194] The origin of the myth is uncertain, although it may be related to the fact that the Tower was built in the corner of London's Roman walls. Another possibility is that someone misread a passage from Gervase of Tilbury in which he says Caesar built a tower at Odnea in France. Gervase wrote Odnea as Dodres, which is close to the French for London, Londres. [195] Today, the story survives in William Shakespeare's RichardII and RichardIII, [196] and as late as the 18thcentury some still regarded the Tower as built by Caesar. Aside from a magnificent view of the river Thames, you can also see the Shard, Gherkin, Walkie-Talkie, and Tower of London. You can look through the windows and see a glimpse of history through architecture ranging from the 11th century to present-day. These are 5 great photos from the top of the tower, we have hade a weeks holiday in B/pool for the past 15 years in September ,we enjoy the lights, keep up the good work.

As a seat of power for over seven centuries, the Palazzo Vecchio is an iconic symbol of Florence and it’s history, culture and political heritage. This landing is very narrow, just enough room to walk around single file, so you don’t want to spend too long here. The view is slightly obscured by the metal bars on the windows but it does give you a glimpse of what is to come. Maj Gen Keith Cima: Resident Governor HM Tower of London, Historic Royal Palaces, archived from the original on 6 December 2008 , retrieved 27 September 2010 Sarah informed her boss Bailie that she was transferring to Homicide, she sarcastically thanked him and said "I've learned a lot from you," as she left. She then went to Matthews' funeral and watched Shaw from a distance with his fellow police officers, who were presumably unaware their boss wasn't quite the good cop he pretended to be.

The Tower of London has played a prominent role in English history. It was besieged several times, and controlling it has been important to controlling the country. The Tower has served variously as an armoury, a treasury, a menagerie, the home of the Royal Mint, a public record office, and the home of the Crown Jewels of England. From the early 14th century until the reign of Charles II in the 17th century, a procession would be led from the Tower to Westminster Abbey on the coronation of a monarch. In the absence of the monarch, the Constable of the Tower is in charge of the castle. This was a powerful and trusted position in the medieval period. In the late 15th century, the Princes in the Tower were housed at the castle when they mysteriously disappeared, presumed murdered. Under the Tudors, the Tower became used less as a royal residence, and despite attempts to refortify and repair the castle, its defences lagged behind developments to deal with artillery. About Me

The main character Marijana is a beautiful 25-year-old girl. When she was 16 her father's boss sexually abused her. Marijana's father progressed his career (as a gynaecologist willing to perform illegal abortions) due to his boss's assistance and did nothing about the abuse. The tradition of housing the Crown Jewels in the Tower of London probably dates from the reign of Henry III (1216–1272). The Jewel House was built specifically to house the royal regalia, including jewels, plate, and symbols of royalty such as the crown, sceptre, and sword. When money needed to be raised, the treasure could be pawned by the monarch. The treasure allowed the monarch independence from the aristocracy and consequently was closely guarded. A new position for "keeper of the jewels, armouries and other things" was created, [163] which was well rewarded; in the reign of Edward III (1327–1377) the holder was paid 12d a day. The position grew to include other duties including purchasing royal jewels, gold, and silver, and appointing royal goldsmiths and jewellers. [163] When you reach the top of the main building you come out onto an open landing. From there you can walk around the edge of the building. It is spacious with plenty of room to walk around. There are also some benches so you can take a break or just enjoy the view from the gothic arched windows. Plowden, Alison (2004). "Grey (married name Dudley), Lady Jane (1537–1554)". Oxford Dictionary of National Biography. Oxford University Press. (subscription required) At the Duomo, you can climb to top of Brunelleschi’s dome (also called the cupola) and to the top of Giotto’s Bell Tower (also called the Campanile).
