The amount of work that's gone into putting it all together must be immeasurable, but the result is just literally out of this world. Andy Saunders must have the patience of a saint to have worked him magic on all these. Houston - Tranquility Base here. The Eagle has landed." -- Apollo 11 commander / astronaut Neil Armstrong, after his moon landing on 20 July 1969

Discover space as you've never seen it before, with these awe-inspiring, breathtakingly restored images of our first missions to the Moon The RAW output from the digital scan of a 70mm Hasselblad frame, is a huge 1.3GB, 16-bit TIFF file, 11,000 pixels square, but they’re still essentially a digital photograph of a piece of analog film. So although they contain an incredible amount of information, they require a significant amount of careful processing to tease out the detail and produce a well balanced image.I have always enjoyed taking photographs too. I guess I was somewhere between a serious amateur and a semi-professional for a time, but since then I’ve switched my focus to remastering film. Have you always been interested in the Apollo missions? The stills from the Hasselblads take anything from a few hours to a day. Although those that are in a poorer state are more like restorations (such as the cover shot) and can take a couple of days or more to perfect. The panoramas typically take a day or more as I have to remaster each of a number of frames and then I ‘manually’ stitch these – I don’t use any automated software for this as they’re just never absolutely correct, and as it’s historically important imagery I want to ensure I know exactly what is going on.

After five decades, it's very rare that something comes along from Apollo that genuinely surprises me... but this is truly special. It changes everything, in an instant -- Mark McCaughrean, Senior Advisor for Science and Exploration, European Space Agency A handsome volume. . . The digitally restored images in Apollo Remastered bring NASA's moon voyages to life as never before Simon Ings, New Scientist, Best Books of the Year Truly epic . . . Some of the scenes you'll recognize; they're among the most iconic photos ever taken. But others you will not have seen before; and certainly not in the detail that Andy has rendered them. They have a crispness and depth that makes you want to reach out and touch them -- Jonathan Amos * BBC Online * Andy Saunders has created the highest quality Apollo photographs ever produced. So much thought has gone into the design and production - they are genuinely breathtaking new visions of one of humankind's greatest endeavors. * Digital Camera World Magazine *In his breathtaking new book, science writer Andy Saunders shares remastered images of the first missions to the Moon, giving the most accurate view ever of these historic journeys. The results are astounding, and according to the astronauts who were actually there, they're closer to reality than anything that's gone before. * Irish Independent * For decades it was thought there were no direct images of Neil Armstrong {I get to name tag Neil Armstrong!} on the moon, other than the famous 'Man on the Moon' photo of Buzz Aldrin with Neil reflected in his visor. Als Besitzer mehrerer anderer hochgelobter Bildbände zu diesem Thema war es nur eine kurze Überlegung, auch dieses Buch hier besitzen zu wollen.
