About this deal

To fruit well in the UK, apricot trees need a warm, sheltered location and lots of sunshine. Potential fruiting problems include:

Let the crumble cool in the pan for a few minutes or until warm before you cut into it. Cooling will make better and fewer crumbs when cutting. Spice mix– There is so much flavor you can add to this and yet simple vanilla on its own works great. In winter I often use pumpkin spice or gingerbread spice in my apricot squares. Cinnamon is another spice that does great here too!

Another important reason to afford your tree the most sheltered aspect you have is that of inscets and pollination. Apricots are very early flowering, infact they are the first of all the fruit trees to begin to open their blossoms, by far. The pretty pale pink flowers appear on the naked branches often at the end of February or early March and of course the weather is far too unpredictable then to offer reliable pollination and this is the most common cause of poor fruit set or inadequate pollination or frost damage to the flowers, or both. There tends to be a dearth of flying insects around that early so be prepared to hand pollinate some flower trusses, go around from one flower to another dabbing pollen with a soft haired brush. And if possible protect the flowers from frosts with horticultural fleece. The sought after des-res for Apricots is a good warm wall! It absolutely has to face South or West and you won’t need a huge area. 6 x 6’ is adequate although if you have more room you can train it out a bit. One of the most important considerations is that of soil; it is often quite dry by a wall and you must make sure this is not the case before planting because Apricots hate dry roots. Your aftercare regime for wall trained apricots must always include regular watering during the growing season. Cut into 16 to 18 squares. I get about 16 squares from the square pan and about 18 squares from the rectangular pan. To get the very best results from bright vibrant colours, like our zesty Fluorescent Lime, you’ll need your hair to be at the lighter end of the scale. If that is your goal, we always recommend using our Lightening Kit or going to a professional salon.

Apricots– The star of the show. And yet, the apricot season, unfortunately, is really short. Today, I am using fresh apricots, but canned or frozen work just as well.Spice mix– There is so much flavor you can add to this, and yet, simple vanilla on its own works great. In winter, I often use pumpkin spice or gingerbread spice in my apricot squares. And, cinnamon is another spice that also does great here. A bit non-traditional, but a pinch of garam masala in winter works wonderfully too. Leftover ham is basically refrigerator gold. Try making a croque madame for your next brunch, use it to amp up a batch of crescent rolls with our ham and cheese pinwheels, or chop it up and throw it in your next batch of scalloped potatoes. Whatever you do, save that bone! It’s great for flavoring broths, soups, or a big pot of collard greens. Still hungry? Here's our favorite leftover ham recipes. Step 4 Knead in the apricots until evenly distributed. Return to a clean bowl, if needed, cover and leave to rise in a warm place for 1-11/2hr, or until doubled in size. If you're serving this as the main to your holiday dinner, you can't go wrong with a classic potato side, from creamy mashed potatoes, scalloped potatoes, or even mashed potato casserole. Paired with garlic-Parmesan roasted carrots, cranberry bacon green beans, and cheesy baked asparagus for the ultimate holiday spread.

Fresh Apricots– Wash the apricots, score a cross on the bottom skin, and blanch them in hot water for three minutes. Then, drop them in cold water so the skin peels off easily. Remove skin, chop them into smaller pieces. Pruning for trees grown in containers is the same and after the first year or two you will probably need to prune less than you would normally as the tree will start to become naturally retarded. Pro tip– I find the square pan makes 16 even squares. But, you can use any pan or dish similar in size. Spice mix– There is so much flavor you can add to this and yet simple vanilla on its own works great. In winter I often use pumpkin spiceor gingerbread spicein my apricot squares. Cinnamon is another spice that does great here too!La Riche has also formulated a fantastic range of Shampoo and Conditioners to help you get the most out of your colour. The Pre Colour Shampoo will balance your hair's PH before dying whilst removing excess oils to ensure the best results from the Hair Colour. Whilst the Colour Care Shampoo and Conditioner have been developed to be kind to your hair and will ensure your colour lasts! Do not skip prebaking the base this will ensure it is cooked as well as make a firmer, not soggier base. Selecting young branches of an apricot tree for training as a fanMost apricots should be pruned annually to keep them in good shape, healthy and productive, although some naturally compact varieties, such as ‘Garden Aprigold’, need little or no pruning. Like all stone fruits, apricots should only be pruned in spring or summer, to minimise the risk of infection by silver leaf disease and bacterial canker. Prune established trees after fruiting, and newly planted trees in early spring. This is because Directions’ vibrant range works best on hair that is a 9 or 10 on the colour shade scale. As a general rule, the lighter your hair’s shade, the more likely the colour you apply will be as bright and vivid as you intend it to be, particularly for lighter/softer colours. Add the filling to the baked base just before baking otherwise, the filling will soak into the base and make it soggy.
