About this deal

Nobody is expecting a powerhouse in this price tier, but we still want to see how it can perform. First, let’s look at the parts in this model. There’s an Intel Core i3-1005G1 processor with Intel UHD Graphics, 8GB of memory, and a 128GB SSD. This processor is definitely a budget-grade chip, with just two cores and four threads. To determine if it’s potent enough for everyday tasks and some light work, we put the VivoBook through our usual set of benchmark tests. Below are the names and specs of the competition we’ll be measuring its results against. Designed with help from the audio experts at Dirac, a professional audio solution provider, the audio system delivers the most immersive, clear, and balanced sound experience you’ve ever heard on a PC, laptop or tablet. You’ll hear a wider and deeper soundscape than you could imagine, unleashing the full audio potential of your laptop. Your comfort is our highest priority. That’s why the ASUS ErgoSense keyboard has an incredibly satisfying feel, with the optimum key bounce and travel calculated with fine-tuned precision. Experience the ErgoSense keyboard and you’ll soon find yourself cruising effortlessly through your work.

A Geekbench 5 score of 1000 is considered the baseline, so the VivoBook S15’s single-core and multi-core scores of 926 and 2723 are interesting, suggesting this laptop is just about good enough for today’s PC tasks. The Biocidal Products Regulation (BPR, Regulation (EU) 528/2012) concerns the placing on the market and use of biocidal products, which are used to protect humans, animals, materials or articles against harmful organisms like pests or bacteria, by the action of the active substances contained in the biocidal product.

ASUS Vivobook Go 15 OLED (E1504F)

Finally, I ran PCMark 10, a holistic benchmark that simulates a range of PC tasks. A PCMark 10 score of 4000 indicates a system is suitable for basic PC work, and the Asus VivoBook S15 landed just wide of the mark here with a score of 3953.

Whether for work or play, ASUS X515 is the entry-level laptop that delivers powerful performance and immersive visuals. Its NanoEdge display boasts wide 178° viewing angles and a matte anti-glare coating for a truly engaging experience. Inside, it’s powered by up to an Intel® Core™ i7 processor with 16 GB 2400 MHz RAM, and features NVIDIA® GeForce® MX330. A dual-storage design with up to a 1 TB PCIe® SSD and a 1 TB HDD gives you the perfect combination of large storage capacity and fast data read / write speeds. There’s also Intel® Optane™ memory support1 to help speed things up even more. Efficiency Cinebench is often a good predictor of our Handbrake video editing trial, another tough, threaded workout that's highly CPU-dependent and scales well with cores and threads. In it, we put a stopwatch on test systems as they transcode a standard 12-minute clip of 4K video (the open-source Blender demo movie Tears of Steel) to a 1080p MP4 file. It's a timed test, and lower results are better.ASUS X515 is equipped with the reversible USB-C® 3.2 port, featuring an any-way-up design that makes connecting devices as easy as possible. It also delivers data transfer speeds up to 10x faster4 than older USB 2.0 connections! It also includes USB 3.2 Type-A and USB 2.0 ports, HDMI output, and a microSD card reader — so you can easily connect all your current peripherals, displays and projectors with zero hassle. ScreenPad features all of the same productivity apps present on the new Asus ZenBook 14. DocXpert, SheetXpert, and SlideXpert all load up formatting and style shortcuts for Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

ASUS BacGuard protection is an optional feature only available on the Transparent Silver version of VivoBook 15 (X512). Vivobook 15 delivers beautifully clear visuals with its three-sided slim-bezel NanoEdge touch screen5 display. The wide viewing angles maintain great quality even for off-center viewing, and the TÜV Rheinland eye-care certification ensures low blue-light levels that reduce the risk of eye strain during long viewing sessions. Colour gamuts are very narrow, with just 52.2% sRGB covered, along with 36.2% DCI-P3 and 36.2% Adobe RGB. With so little colour available, the Delta E accuracy score was never going to be good, and it wasn’t, registering at an excessive 6 against the sRGB profile in Vivid mode. In Standard mode, it is even worse at 7.1. There’s no support for Windows Hell IR facial recognition, nor is there a fingerprint scanner. PerformanceThe NanoEdge display gives ASUS X515 a vast screen area for an immersive viewing experience for work and play. Its wide-view FHD panel features an anti-glare coating to reduce unwanted distractions from irritating glare and reflections, so you can truly focus on what’s in front of you. With the brightness dipped to 150 nits, colour space coverage was 56.8% for sRGB, 39.4% for Adobe RGB, and 40.5% for DCI P3. However, viewing angles are poor, with discolouration noticeable even at the slightest angles. If you’re working in a well-lit office or study room and facing the screen head on, you’ll likely be able to ignore the VivoBook 15’s shortcomings, but just don’t expect this to be the ideal display for Netflix. One important thing to note: The laptop ships in Windows S mode, a setting for less-powerful laptops that’s more friendly for running Windows Store apps. If you want to install other applications (as you would on any full Windows PC, and likely desire to do on this system), you’ll have to grab the free upgrade to normal Windows 10 from the Windows Store.
