He's written a very tongue-in-cheek book about View from the Top, a flop 2003 movie in which Gwyneth Paltrow portrays an ambitious flight attendant. Jones, Ellen E. (30 March 2015). Like many books by comedians, Ayoade on Ayoade is a vehicle for jokes, and most of them are funny. Ayoade is particularly good at making up fake movie plots (see Hot Sauce 2: The Afterburn).

It’s after about 67 Gwenyth in Paris mental appearances that I come across Richard Ayoade and become a fan. I have absolutely no reason to think the two would ever cross paths. Yet lo and behold, around the 140th time I think of Gwenyth in Paris, the two worlds meet, and in long form no less. Ayoade has written an entire book on an average but lowkey charming VCD movie I watched one time but couldn’t quite forget. Of course he has. There was actually a lawsuit (which the vag-egg-wallah lost) because of the false claims made about these - proof that fools are indeed born continuously. Cambridge Footlights ( Stephen Fry, Hugh Laurie, Tony Slattery, Emma Thompson, Penny Dwyer and Paul Shearer)In February 2006, Ayoade began playing technically brilliant, but socially awkward, IT technician Maurice Moss in the sitcom The IT Crowd on Channel 4, appearing with Chris O'Dowd, Katherine Parkinson, Chris Morris, and later on, Matt Berry. The series' creator Graham Linehan wrote the part specifically for Ayoade. [28] In 2008, Ayoade won the award for an outstanding actor in a television comedy series at the Monte-Carlo Television Festival for his performance. [29] In 2009, Ayoade co-starred with Joel McHale in the pilot for an American version of The IT Crowd, reprising his role with the same appearance and personality; however, no series was commissioned, and the pilot never aired. [30] The original The IT Crowd ran for four seasons until 2010, with a special airing in 2013, for which Ayoade won a BAFTA for Best Male Comedy Performance. [31] [32]

The book itself is a parody of high-brow interviews with film directors. It probably helps if you've taken a film studies class or two in college, as the satire of this writing style is pretty spot on. Ayoade's interviews are totally ridiculous, however, and this is not a book to read if you want to learn anything purely factual about him. The constant absurdism does raise the question of whether there's anything true in the book, even on a metaphorical level. I think the answer is yes. In the first ever episode of The IT Crowd, the techies in the basement boost their popularity by throwing a party. It’s going incredibly well, everyone’s happy and laughing their heads off. Then Moss, who has the true nerd’s inability to compute human emotions, tells a story about the time he and his colleague Roy hired two prostitutes in Amsterdam. Instantly the mood sours. The others are really good actors, so [the show] can contain something which is more of a turn than an acting performance – I wouldn't dignify what I do by calling it acting," he told The Guardian in 2011.

If you want to succeed, the film bravely asserts, put on a short skirt and go into the service industry!” Born in London to a Norwegian mother and Nigerian father, Richard Ayoade has become an unassuming powerhouse of British pop culture. Since he began his multifaceted career 20 years ago, he's shown his comedy chops with roles in The IT Crowd and The Mighty Boosh, directed the highly acclaimed British indie films Submarine with Craig Roberts and The Double with Jesse Eisenberg, hosted the quirky game show The Crystal Maze and travel documentary series Travel Man, and written several very funny books exploring his love of film.BAFTA Television awards 2014: Richard Ayoade with the BAFTA for Male Performance in a Comedy Programme".
