If you are looking for a crunchy abstract game with a large lean toward the puzzle category, Azul: Queen’s Garden could be a good fit for you. The original is perfectly simple. With straightforward and easily understood rules, this is the least overwhelming in the series. It doesn’t try to get too cute with mechanics and that’s the beauty of it. Is Azul: Stained Glass of Sintra easy to learn? While the rules aren’t complicated, they are still more involved than the original game. Especially when it comes to scoring and the use of the Glazier. Younger children will likely need to work with an adult for their first game or two to get the hang of it. Complete the far right strips early: These strips will pay out points each time you complete a strip to the left of them, maximising your points. Azul (Review) – This is the original in the series and is a super simple tile drafting and placement game. Fantastic game but can be very cut throat. Azul: Summer Pavilion is the third game in the Azul series and is a little less cutthroat than the previous games. It now features a separate tile placement round and the ability to earn bonus tiles.
Once the game ends players will add any bonus points to their total score to determine the winner. The side of the palace board you play with determines what bonus points are on offer for that game.
ABOUT THE GAMES
Your decisions are often skewed by what you think your rivals are trying to do, and the game offers a couple of end game bonus variants that increase replayability – in addition to the variability of your window design and the way tiles come out of the bag. The game has nice components and play moves along at a good pace without too much downtime. Overall, the additional elements in Azul: Stained Glass of Sintra add some additional complexity but it’s not hard to get your head around and results in a unique and interesting experience. I do however think that the original Azul is better suited to introducing new or younger players to the series first, it is the simpler to learn of the two games. Components Is it just me or do these look a little like Sparkles lollies? Remind the kids they are not for eating.
Azul: Stained Glass of Sintra maintains some of the core tile drafting mechanisms of Azul, but introduces new tile laying techniques and a new theme. In Azul: Stained Glass of Sintra players are challenged to select colourful glass panes to adorn the windows of the chapel of the Palace of Sintra in Portugal. The game ends suddenly, so if you aren’t paying attention, you can get caught completely unaware. You must always be watching to know just how much longer the game is likely to go on. Each round a new color tile is wild which gives you something to plan for and work towards to help complete valuable sections on your board. If you are looking for an abstract game with a bit more depth and don’t mind a lot of moving parts, Azul Stained Glass of Sintra could be a great choice for you. We’ve played all four and we can confirm that each are perfectly lovely in their own way. Yet, because they are each so similar to the other, we don’t feel that you need to have each game on your shelf.Queen’s Garden is the heaviest challenge of the four Azul games. There are strict rules for both drafting and placement. Players who enjoy the chance to create big scoring combinations will enjoy how Queen’s Garden has both round scoring where specific tiles score at the conclusion of each round and end of game scoring where all tiles score again based on their groupings of color and symbol. This creates for the largest puzzle feel among the Azul series. Throughout each round you’ll think and rethink where you can maximize each tile’s scoring potential to the fullest.
