It's also very quiet, helped by lots of sound insulation, acoustic glass and foam inside the rear pillars to reduce wind noise.
As you may suspect, a faulty fuel injection caused by a poor MAF sensor can also make your acceleration rough or jerky. Ride quality A couple of days with an SE model proved the NX’s standard suspension setup is not bad but opt for the Adaptive Variable Suspension and it makes the ride far too harsh on broken roads, with potholes and speed humps making progress noticeably unpleasant. Turn into a corner with gusto and the electronic brain tightens up the dampers on the outside wheels to keep the car flat and stable, but turn in smoothly and the body is allowed to roll too much. I had thought changing the wheel size might help, but all trim levels come with the same specification 18in tyres, so it isn’t down to the rubber.

That said, the V6 engine does sound good and you can happily make swift progress in the RX L if need be. It's not a car that wants to be thrown into corners - take it through a bend at speed and the tyres will soon squeal in protest. It's not terrible, it's just much more suited to a more relaxed style of driving. All car engines are very sensitive to the right airflow mixture at the exact starting moment. If the wrong amount of fuel is injected into the engine when you try to start your car, your car might crank a little longer than usual or it may even refuse to start at all. The electric steering set up is devoid of much feel and tends to self centre a bit too eagerly for our liking, but it's responsive nonetheless and is nice and light to at low speeds to make parking easy.

The 450h system in the L is identical to the one in the standard RX. That means it's a 3.5-litre V6 petrol engine alongside an electric motor. Combined these provide 308PS along with 335Nm of torque which gives the RX L strong performance when needed. And herein lies the problem for most car enthusiasts — they want a car to respond in a predictable manner, according to their inputs — they don’t want it to have a mind of its own.
