How long does the battery last on an electric mountain bike? Many Bafang users complain that it is more like a motorcycle than a bike. It’s no wonder they say this because Bafang configures these motors at the factory to have about 50% power in assist level one. That is attenuated by the speed % also set to 50%, but that is still crazy. When you start pedaling in level one, you have over 200 watts on a BBS02 and over 300 watts on a BBSHD. That is close to the same power factory e-bikes have on their highest level of assistance, typically 250-350 watts. You can achieve the same power as a 48v battery but with a low current (amps). I did this with my Bafang conversion, and I had over 2000 miles of trouble-free use. Try to avoid water. Although the Bafang is water resistant, it’s not waterproof. Any prolonged immersion in water or using a power wash to clean it is asking for trouble (I know this from personal experience).
