DISASSEMBLY - Do not use the handle to unscrew the two chambers. Wait for the Moka Pot to cool down before disassembly.

Commonly referred to as a Moka Pot or stovetop espresso coffee maker -BIALETTI has inspired many imitations - but there remains only one true original BIALETTI MOKA EXPRESS coffee maker. Please note: cup size is based on espresso cup sizes and not on regular coffee cup sizes and indicates maximum boiler capacity. Once the coffee begins to sputter (you'll recognize this immediately), remove the Moka Express from the burner and rinse the bottom chamber under cold water to stop the brewing process. CORRECT SIZE -Choose the right size of Moka Pot. Your BIALETTI is designed to be used with full measures of water and coffee - this will not work correctly if it is half filled. Most users have miltiple sized Moka Pots.

Another minor frustration is that the price of the Moka Express varies widely depending on the retailer. It makes sense that the price varies by capacity—a 1-cup model, for instance, is less expensive than a 12-cup model—but when retailers charge substantially different prices for the same size Moka Express, it imparts a feeling that you must hunt for a fair deal. If you don’t have access to a measuring jug then the height and diameter of moka pots can help you determine which one you have.Moka pots use the terms “cups” or “tazza” for sizing, but these aren’t the same as standard recipe cup sizes or a typical cup of coffee. One moka pot cup equals approximately 60 ml or 2.1 fl. oz., similar to a double espresso. What is a tazza? The iconic Moka Express Coffee Maker from Bialetti allows you to create superior, barista style coffee at home. As for the aesthetic, I appreciate the touch of Italian coffee history the Moka Express brings to my kitchen. The stainless steel silhouette feels timeless, not antiquated. Plus, it’s compact enough to store in a cupboard if you don’t love the look of it. The item is available in sizes ranging from one to 18 espresso-sized cups (roughly 1.5 ounces per cup), and even the largest model won’t overwhelm your kitchen.

After use the Moka Pot will be very hot and difficult to unscrew. If you wish to re-use immediately run the entire Moka Pot under cold running water until the metal components are cool enough to touch. This will make the Moka Pot much easier to unscrew.

Fill the bottom chamber with hot water to just below the valve. I learned late in the game that starting with hot water, around 205 degrees, works much better than cold water. Now choose your preferred ground coffee blend. Caution! The blend must be specifically ground for a Moka pot and not excessively fine. Either use pre-ground coffee suited to Moka, or grind your own. It has three main parts: a bottom chamber for water, a filter for coffee grounds, and a top chamber where the coffee ends up. When placed on a stovetop (or over a fire for you campers), steam pressure builds in the bottom chamber and propels water up through the coffee grounds, resulting in the bold brew for which moka pots are known. Heat your coffee - place it on a moderately hot stove, angling the handle away from heat and leaving the lid open. Coffee will start to bubble into the top section

BEFORE USE - We recommend that you hand wash all parts in warm water before first use. We recommend that you discard the first 2-3 brews to "season" the Moka Pot. Place the coffeemaker on a low to medium heat. When using on gas adjust the flame so that it does not extend up the side of the pot.

Many moka pots look very similar except for their size. The easiest way to tell what size moka pot you have is to measure the volume of water you use to fill the lower chamber. Measuring the volume of water Add the filter and coffee - insert the filter basket into the brewer, then fill the basket with coffee Use only ground coffee intended for use with a Moka Pot - do NOT use instant coffee as this will damage the Moka Pot and make terrible tasting coffee.
