Although the front lip of the motorised head is relatively close to the ground, it has a gentle funnel shape and a significant gap moulded into the middle for letting through larger particles. As a result, cleaning a measure of Cheerios from short-pile carpet proved a simple task and it collected almost all of them in a single pass. This isn’t a big thing, but it did cross my mind as I prostrated myself on the floor of the living room to reach under the sofa with the Bissell –the Shark simply folds in the middle to allow for the user to do nothing more than bend forward to reach beneath furniture.

When I clean, I like to do a proper job; I’m very thorough with my cleaning, particularly when it comes to dust, as I suffer from asthma. The skirting boards, ceilings, window and door frames all get a good clean. However, this is no easy task with most common or garden vacuum cleaners. My job was made easier thanks to the two accessories the Bissell Multireach Active comes with. However, while powerful suction and good cleaning ability usually go hand in hand, there are plenty of other factors at play, so we put the Multreach Active through our usual suite of tough cleaning tests, where it performed admirably. We’ve already mentioned the cleaning accessories that come in the Multireach Active 21V’s box, but there’s one other item included that’s worth noting: the wall mount. This is a plastic holster you can screw to the wall and comes with an attachment holder that can store both the crevice tool and the brush, as well as the vacuum cleaner itself. First impressions were good; I loved the sleek look, and getting started was surprisingly straightforward. There was no need to read hard-to-understand instructions; the device came in three main parts and was super easy to put together. It weighs just 3.63 kg which made it simple to manoeuvre with one hand. The Bissell MultiReach Cordless has a 21V lithium-ion battery with just two power modes – high and low. Once fully charged (recommended five hours), the floor cleaner will give you a 30-minute run time, which is standard for a cordless vacuum. This vacuum converts easily to a handheld, with a touch of a button. There’s a built in crevice tool, so there’s no need for an attachment for those hard-to-reach spaces. A dusting brush is also provided. Emptying As you might have gathered from its name, it’s ‘multi-reach’ design gets to high-reach places like those pesky cobwebs in the ceiling and corners. However, I did find it slightly heavy to hold up high for long periods (or maybe my arms are simply too short!). There are LED lights on the floor nozzle, which are really bright. This is an added extra I really love – it makes vacuuming under furniture so much easier simply because you can see where to aim, and where you've been.

A couple of Cheerios must have caught the brushes at an awkward angle and were propelled out of reach, but it was less than 1g of a 26g spillage and was nothing a second pass couldn’t deal with. The vacuum has an impressive suction power when on the high mode, and I found I needed this function more on carpets than hard floors. The device is also relatively quiet at 81db, which is a major plus point if you need to clean early or late in the day without disturbing the rest of the household. The bagless cylinder, however, doesn’t have a huge dust capacity. With just 0.5 litres, you will need to empty it regularly. The see-through cylinder will visibly let you know it’s full, but the useful dust bag full indicator will also alert you when it is time to empty it. It can also be easily washed and rinsed under the tap when it becomes dirty over time. The bright LED lights on the floor nozzle help you to see in dark areas and lights up the dust and debris of which you didn’t know it was there.

The MultiReach 21V comes with a lithium-ion battery that provides up to 30 minutes of powerful cordless cleaning when used in low power mode of two cleaning modes The Bissell MultiReach Cordless Vacuum Cleaner comes with two accessories, a useful crevice tool to get into all those nooks and crannies, and an upholstery brush for fabrics. This isn’t many, considering most vacuum cleaners usually come with a bag of various accessories (that you won’t end up using). But at least you won’t have to worry about where to stash it away, adding to your household ‘clutter’. It comes with a wall-mountable station, always handy for vertical storage in a utility cupboard, and a real space-saver. Introducing BISSELL® MultiReach™ Active 21V hand‐held vacuum for an effective & versatile cordless cleaning with no hair wrap. Engineered with our patented Tangle‐Free Brush Roll, so you will not need

After about 20 minutes, I could hear the battery power start to wane, with the indicator showing one bar of juice. To be fair, it was mainly at high power, and Bissell does state it provides 30 minutes at a low power, so it’s worth noting. It also takes a fairly lengthy 5 hours to charge. It struggled with the cereal on hard floor, however, with the particles proving too large to pass through the funnel without the added traction of carpet. It only gathered 8g of Cheerios with the motorised head and we had to convert it to handheld mode and rely on the brush attachment to scoop the rest up. It was better at collecting flour from hard floor, where it gathered 43g of a 50g spill on the first pass. This is more than it sounds, with only a light residue left behind. However, I did need to use the brush attachment to finish the job off.It goes without saying that this vacuum can deal efficiently with both carpets and hard floors – and because it’s a cordless, furniture and cars, too. But what about the extras? The Bissell MultiReach Cordless Vacuum Cleaner is equipped with a 21V lithium-ion battery with two power modes – high and low. This promises 30 minutes of continuous power, which is about the average cleaning time for standard cordless cleaners. Bissell is a family-owned company that has been providing cleaning tools in the homecare business for five generations. With over 140 years in the business, their technical floor cleaning expertise has been applied to keep carpets, tiles, hardwood, vinyl and laminate smelling fresh and free from hair, dirt, dust and debris. They aim to make their products strong, versatile and simple to use with powerful suction and smooth performance both with or without cords.

The smart mess free Easy Empty and Clean Slide Technology features a no-touch dirt chamber with a unique sliding mechanism which collects and then traps dust, debris, allergens and hair. Converts to handheld or high-reach vacuum and includes a built-in crevice tool for all round cleaningAnother thing worth noting is the vacuum cleaner is not able to free-stand by itself. So if you want to stop at any point to clear anything out of the way, you would have to lean it up against a wall or lay it flat, which is a bit of a nuisance. While this lightweight, quiet vacuum doesn’t have a long power time, if you clean your home little and often with it, you won’t have any problem keeping it in tip-top condition. It’s powerful enough to clean stubborn dirt and hairs caught in carpets and a doddle to lift dirt and dust from hard floors.
