Remove all but one of the tines – leave the last one is as it will be a guide on how to fit the replacements. Do this by inserting a screwdriver at the base of the tine and levering it off. The collection box on the Bosch attaches to the rear of the rake (like a lawn mower), this is the reason Bosch can achieve such a large collection box. The Flymo’s collection box is more integral to the rake, reducing the capacity. The advantage for the Flymo is smaller overall dimensions and the disadvantage is the relatively small collection storage. or• Phone the Bosch after sales service on 03447 360109 who will be happy to arrange and explain the warranty claim process.

In my review of the Bosch ALR 900, I found that the 10 Double Steel Tines make it a great choice for removing dead grass and other debris from your lawn. The 50-litre collection box and folding handles also make for easy and compact storage. But for purposes of this article, we will use the terms scarifier and lawn raker as interchangeable. So, what exactly is the difference between a lawn raker and aerator? a. Aeration Of course, it’s entirely possible to scarify your lawn with a handheld rake. But this is a very labour intensive job that is also inefficient as well since you are unlikely to remove enough thatch. Mechanical lawn rakers offer an easier, faster and more accurate way to detach large areas. The purpose of a lawn rake is to free your lawn from moss, weeds, thatch and leaves, and I can honestly say that once you have used an electric lawn rake you will wonder how you ever managed without one. If you only have heavily compacted soil areas in a few spots, you can rectify these with a digging fork. Push the tines completely into the soil in the affected areas and wiggle the digging fork around. This makes the holes a little larger. In this way, you create channels that the water and oxygen can use to get into the soil. Then fill these channels with fine grained sand.

During the autumn, the grass on your lawn goes into a kind of winter hibernation. Just like all plants, this is a way for the grass to protect itself against a possible bleak wintry climate. In the spring, if the temperature increases above 12°, the grass starts growing again.

Only 4 height settings. This is a shame as most of the Bosch’s competitors have at least 6 height settings. Take a small bladed screwdriver and remove the circular spring washer – don’t try to remove the split pin at the other end as it may be much stiffer than the first.

Removing this moss and thatch gives the grass chance to grow and lets nutrients and oxygen reach the roots. I, of course, also recommend using a lawn aerator. The smaller manual ones are what I would recommend. I previously discussed them in this review. This just makes lots of holes into the lawn so water and nutrients can get into the roots. It also helps with drainage too. 1100w motor with Jet-Collect System for compressed moss collection Bosch was created in 1886 in Stuttgart, Germany by Robert Bosch who formed the business to specialise in the manufacture of electronic components. The 'Workshop for Precision Mechanics and Electrical Engineering' as he originally called it, has since become one of the biggest and best-known manufacturers of both domestic and industrial products in the world. Bosch have always had a willingness to improve on their already established designs, right from day one. It's this ethos, which has allowed Robert Bosch GmbH and Bosch Garden Tools to maintain the enviable place in the market they hold today. The Bosch AVR 1100 has a very impressive 50 litre grass box, now this may not sound large, but when compared the Flymo at just 34 litres you will see this is large for a lawn rake of this size.
