About this deal

People with known hypersensitivity to maropitant should administer the veterinary medicinal product with caution. Our survey will give users of the Compendium the opportunity to say how they think we can improve it to assist them in prescribing veterinary medicines and advising animal keepers on their use. We look forward to getting your views”. Half tablets should be stored for a maximum of two days after removal from the blister. Half-tablets should be returned to the opened blister and kept within the cardboard outer.

Cerenia solution for injection is used in dogs both to prevent nausea and vomiting before and after an operation and to improve recovery from general anaesthesia after use of morphine. Cerenia is used to prevent (tablets and solution for injection) and treat (solution for injecton) nausea caused by chemotherapy in dogs. A further study involving dogs looked at the prevention of nausea and vomiting before and after surgery. Dogs received either Cerenia soluton for injection or placebo 45 minutes before the administration of morphine for sedation and pain relief prior to anaesthesia . The measures of effectiveness were evidence of retching, vomiting, intensity of nausea and improvements in the speed of recovery by for example measuring time to sit up and stand. Tablets should be administered at least one hour before starting the journey. The anti-emetic effect persists for at least 12 hours, which for convenience may allow administration the night before early morning travel. Treatment may be repeated for a maximum of two consecutive days. The efficacy of Cerenia in reduction of nausea in cats was demonstrated in studies using a model (xylazine-induced nausea). To prevent vomiting, tablets should be given more than 1 hour in advance. The duration of the effect is approximately 24 hours and, therefore, tablets can be given the night before administration of an agent that may cause emesis (e.g. chemotherapy). Participants in the NOAH Compendium book are listed at http://www.noahcompendium.co.uk/company-directory Vomiting can be associated with serious, severely debilitating conditions and the cause should be investigated. Products such as Cerenia should be used in conjunction with other supportive measures such as dietary control and fluid replacement therapy, as recommended by your veterinary surgeon.

The active substance in Cerenia, maropitant, is broken down in the liver and therefore it is recommended to be used with caution in animals with liver disease. Since maropitant could affect heart activity, Cerenia should be used with caution in animals with certain heart conditions. Participants in the NOAH Compendium are listed at http://www.noahcompendium.co.uk/company-directory The safety of Cerenia has not been established in dogs less than 16 weeks of age and in pregnant or lactating bitches. Use only according to a risk benefit assessment by the responsible veterinary surgeon. Cerenia can also be used as a mild form of pain relief. It is sometimes used in surgery, reducing the pain felt during manipulation of internal organs during procedures such as spaying, and hence reducing the amount of general anaesthetic agent needed (this is known as an “anaesthetic sparing effect”). Cerenia should be used with caution in animals suffering from or with a predisposition for heart diseases. Cerenia should not be used concomitantly with Ca-channel antagonists as maropitant has affinity to Ca-channels.

For the prevention of perioperative nausea and vomiting and improvement in recovery from general anaesthesia after use of the p-opiate receptor agonist morphine.

Anaphylactic type reactions (allergic oedema, urticaria, erythema, collapse, dyspnoea, pale mucous membranes) may occur in very rare cases. The bioequivalence studies showed that giving the injection under the skin produced the same levels of maropitant in the body as giving the injection into a vein. In dogs, Cerenia solution for injection can be used to treat or prevent vomiting once daily for up to 5 days.years ago, I adopted a feral cat who (amazingly) has finally socialized and become quite the affectionate lap cat. Dogs should be carefully observed following administration to ensure that each tablet is swallowed. This is an interesting area. Transdermal medication has not really been fully developed by drug manufacturers to date and is more often used as one-offs, by having products specially compounded as you have done. The solution for injection contains 10 mg maropitant per ml as maropitant citrate monohydrate as a clear, colourless to light yellow solution.
