After the fun of enjoying a bourbon advent calendar last year, I’m excited to be opening a rum calendar this year. The beauty of these single spirit advent calenders from Drinks by the Dram is that they include a wide range of carefully compiled drams in each one so you can taste the differences between each one – all rums are definitely not equal. An almond, mezcal and Chartreuse Margarita, the Dragon Punch gets its name from the two dashes of fire-breathing TABASCO Sauce that complements mezcal’s natural smokiness. Step 2: Secure the lid and shake vigorously for 30-40 seconds until the drink is ice cold and wonderfully frothy Ancho Reyes and Ancho Reyes Verde are handcrafted using chillies native to Puebla. Time-honoured techniques are used for making menjurjes mastered by artisans in 1920s Puebla. For Ancho Reyes Original, chillies are sun-dried for between 15 to 20 days to become ancho chillies. The dried chillies develop a rich, smoky, and fiery flavour. Our poblano chillies are cultivated in the volcano-enriched soils of Puebla. After harvest, the soil is rested for three years before itgrows chillies again. The ancho chillies used in Ancho Reyes Original, are scissor-sliced by hand, a painstaking, time-consuming process that ensures that we use only the finest chillies.Each bottle is inspected individually, then hand labelled according to tradition.

If you would like to make this drink in advance ready to shake up when required, do remember that the quality of the espresso crema will be inferior when left to cool and stand. Or if you would like the hint of vanilla but find yourself without vanilla vodka then use regular vodka and ¼ teaspoon vanilla extract If using regular vodka with vanilla extract, around ¼tsp of extract should suffice – vanilla can be overpowering in large quantities Both the red and green liqueurs are 40% ABV and are popular for adding a bit of spice to classic drinks like a margarita or a Paloma.

Chili Liqueur

The company produces two types of chile liqueur: the original, red Ancho Reyes liqueur and the newer, green Ancho Reyes Verde liqueur. The liqueur is produced using late harvest chiles that have sun-dried for 2 to 3 weeks. [3] For the Verde version of the drink, early harvested fire-roasted poblano chiles are used in addition to the sun-dried chiles. [3] A good amount of time to infuse your alcohol with peppers is 3 days to 1 week. The longer you let the peppers steep in the alcohol, the more chili pepper flavor and heat you will get, though eventually, the peppers can begin to break down if they are left in long enough.

This is it. If you like, it’s a coffee martini livened up with the warming and sweet, yet spicy, flavour profile of Anchos Reyes chilli liqueur. With this inconsistency in heat, instructing people to make a batch of Chilli Vodka just as I say is dangerous territory: Pimento dram (a spicy liqueur made from stepping pimento berries in rum) adds a touch of Christmas spice to this apple and orange-laced cognac sipper. Chilli vodka is a unique spirit that infuses the heat of chilli peppers into the smoothness of vodka.Make this vodka on a day where you are on hand and not required to drive or operate machinery since you’ll need to keep on testing (ie tasting) the vodka at regular intervals. Doesn’t that sound ideal? Hic… But it’s also very necessary, since there’s no better way to ensure you end up with some Chilli Vodka tailored to your tastebuds than to keep on testing it yourself
