About this deal

The Chimney Balloon is a case in point. Produced as a plastic balloon, the installation of the Chimney Balloon requires it to be blown up and inserted into the throat of the chimney.

When there are no fires being used in the fireplace, keep it stored away somewhere dry so that creosote doesn’t accumulate on its surface. Some clients have used an old pillow stuffed into the throat of the chimney. That does actually work well, right up until the pillow becomes wet and starts to become mouldy. It took quite some time before the householders located that damp, musty smell in their lounge room. The insulation can be popped into your roof space if you wish and we will add that the insulation itself is made from 80% recycled PET bottles. The cardboard boxes (also made from recycled materials) can simply be broken down and added to your fortnightly recycling bin. If you have a gas fireplace, it’s best to turn the unit off and let it cool down before using your chimney balloon. Although fitting a chimney cap will help when it comes to preventing draughts and heat loss, using an additional draught excluder is still often a good idea. Energy Efficiency – Heating costs are reduced by up to 60%, which means fewer trips outside in the dead of winter. The rubber bands hold the top and bottom together, enabling it to push outwards as it’s inflated. The top and the bottom of the balloon provide a double barrier. Air is trapped inside the balloon, insulating the chimney against cold air sinking down, while simultaneously preventing warm air from rising up.

Please note: you will need 13 cm on the side of the washing machine and approx. 60 cm in height clearance so that you will be able to easily unscrew the housing and change the filter comfortably. When clearing out your fireplace before using your chimney balloon, it is best to wait until after the fire has been extinguished. Chimneys have a tendency to be smoky and hot when in use so if you try clearing them before extinguishing the fire, not only do you risk getting burned but also inhaling large amounts of smoke which can lead to respiratory problems.

As this warm air rises, it needs to be replaced. So cold air is pulled in, usually from around doors and windows, creating the chilly draught that you can feel (and hear when it’s windy). As we mentioned above, a one size fits all approach doesn’t work when it comes to a Chimney Balloon. you’ll need to measure your chimney then select the most appropriate size.
