About this deal

When testing and selecting the sunscreen, we considered features such as; protection, water resistance, capacity and ease of application as well as how it would work with different skin types.

This year, Lidl is launching its new Cien Sun Kids Immediate Protection Sun Spray (SPF 50+ 250ml). Lidl said it could be sprayed directly onto skin and rubbed in. The spray provides immediate protection, with no need to wait for the product to sink in. UV protection: Sun creams receive a UV star rating out of 5, which measures how well a sunscreen protects against the sun’s UVA rays. Broad-spectrum sun creams protect against both UVA and UVB rays. Most versatile of the bunch. It also happens to work out the cheapest. This one was great from a sensitive skin point of view – given that both of my boys have eczema this is a big consideration. Selling point for little kids: it squirts like a water gun. More importantly it boasts a 5 Star UVA rating and SPF50+. It is fragrance free and water resistant. Creamy consistency doesn’t leave hands feeling oily. The perfect choice of sun protection on a budget or otherwise. The best sunscreens you can buy in 2023

Dont get caught out, leave sun cream in the car/buggy and changing bag to make sure you have it available whenever you need it.

Water resistance: For a sun cream to be water resistant, it must have undergone testing to show that it stays effective for at least 40 minutes in the water. After this time, you will need to reapply. Dr Paul Banwell told us, "Some sunscreens use chemicals, such as oxybenzone, a known- allergen, and avobenzone to absorb UV rays, which can be detected in the body at harmful levels." Sun creams filter out the sun’s damaging UV rays and a high SPF sun cream is important, with the NHS recommending at least six to eight teaspoons worth of SPF application daily from March to October. What to look for in children’s sunscreen

The NHS recommends reapplying sun cream every two hours, as the sun can dry it off your skin. They add that when applying sun cream for the first time that day you should do this twice: 30 minutes before going out and again just before leaving. Lidl's Cien range had three SPF 30 options to choose from, including anti-ageing and kids' - but the 'Active' version seemed the most generic and suited to my purposes. A vibrant mix of clementine and royal blue, this dinky little 75ml tube was small but at least handy for travel. If you're someone who's in and out of the pool or sea when the sun comes out, then this formula from Bondi Sands might be the one for you. It's specially formulated to be water resistant for four hours - far longer than the 40 minute criteria that other water resistant sun creams must meet. It's infused with ethically sourced algae for deep hydration and is, of course, reef friendly too. The best supermarket sun creams for 2023 1. Best sun cream for dry skin: Ambre Solaire Hydra 24H Lotion SPF50+ It goes without saying that you need protection from both UVA and UVB in your sun protection, and, thankfully, almost all of today’s sun creams offer this. How do you know? Look for the words ‘broad spectrum’ on the bottle.

And though the days of greasy, oily SPF are very much a thing of the past, finding the right formula–at the right price–is never an easy feat. Believe it or not, the best thing you can do for your skin daily is to apply a sunscreen. Not only will this reduce the chances of your skin ageing prematurely, but it will also protect you against harmful skin cancers. And if you think sunscreen is only essential on sunny days, think again. For maximum protection, you’re supposed to apply it even when it’s cloudy outside – and even if you spend most of your time indoors. I tried to choose products that are readily available nationwide and are easy enough to get your hands on. Though not included here, I also love Boots Soltan products which are reasonably priced and have a very good reputation in terms of quality of sun protection. The sun emits two types of ultraviolet radiation. UVA affects the skin’s elastin, leading to wrinkles and premature ageing (although it’s also linked to developing skin cancers). UVB is responsible for sunburn and can increase the risk of skin cancers, too. Certain sunscreens carry a UVA star rating from zero to five, which indicates how much UVA radiation they absorb, relative to UVB radiation. Don’t be alarmed if there isn’t a number on the bottle, though: the rating system was devised and is owned by Boots, so not all brands carry it. I would avoidOctinoxate, which is harmful to coral reefs and can cause skin allergies as well asAvobenzone, which can cause high levels of irritation. You also need to avoid Retinyl Palmitate, which does not mix well with the sun. When mixed with the sun, it can be potentially cancerous." My opinion : This is oily. Really oily. At first I struggled a bit to apply it, it wouldn't sink in and it felt like I was just moving white paste around my face. After a minute it started sinking in, and left my face oily. After a few hours my face was still oily (and not a cute dewy look, oily like I just applied a lot of oil). I have combination skin, so I wasn't expecting a super matte finish, but I don't want to walk around with such a shiny face. And I had a very calm day, I think that if I sweated it would look even worse. For environmentally conscious sun-seekers, this sun cream by Forever Living is the one to go for. It won the best sunscreen category in the Green Parent Beauty Awards in 2021, and it's vegan and cruelty-free. The inclusion of aloe vera and vitamin E is extra moisturising and soothes the skin, and the formula promises to be water resistant for 80 minutes. It has perfume, the smells stays for at least 6 hours. I didn't dislike it, but I don't really want to smell perfume on my face everyday.
