About this deal

There's no need to go all out on a top concrete saw if you only need it for smaller concrete jobs, such as cutting concrete pavers or rebar, etc., which the economical PORTER-CABLE chop saw is perfect for. There’s a built-in vise for creating simple straight line cuts as well as various degree angle cuts too.

There are many different types of these saws available so finding the best one for your needs might seem daunting. We've gone ahead and done the research and found some of the best concrete saws, from brands such as DeWALT, PORTER-CABLE, Makita, and SKIL, for you to choose from. You can make small rough cuts using a cold chisel and sledgehammer (Photos 2 and 3), but the better choice is a circular saw with a special blade. Three basic choices are shown in Photo 1: Types of Blades: The CT320 concrete floor shaver when fitted with a range of diamond tooling can shave or groove concrete and asphalt. Any configuration of groove or channel can be formed using the wide range of spacers available. Epoxy screeds and coatings can be removed by assembling a full width drum of diamond tools. The standard machine can reduce or chase channels to a maximum depth of 20mm. A special build version of the CT320, 18.5kW, increases the maximum depth of cut to 30mm. Specially designed diamond tools for use in “Farmyard Grooving“ result in anti-slip easy to clean surfaces while the variable spacer system permits any groove pattern to be achieved. Note wider and deeper grooves are possible with diamond tooling than can be achieved with traditional tungsten tipped cutters. The diamond tooling also creates far lower levels of noise and vibration and potential creates fewer problems to the concrete slab. The variable speed drive improves productivity, control and surface finish, greatly reducing operator fatigue. Used with TCT or Milling Cutters consistent results can be produced over extended periods. Operating the cutter drum in the reverse direction, up-cutting, the CT250 will remove the toughest of coatings with minimal operator effort.

Dry-cutting diamond blades most often have a serrated or toothed rim (Photo 1) to help cool the blade and eject waste. They work best when you make a series of gradually deeper cuts to avoid overheating the blade. The downside to dry-cutting masonry is the tornado of fine dust it creates. If you cut concrete indoors, seal off the area with plastic and duct tape. Seal all duct openings as well.

With top power and performance, the Makita EK7651H 14-inch 4-stroke engine power cutter can cut through just about anything. Just some of the perks this tool has over other similar models or those with two-stroke engines are that this saw requires no separate fuel or oil mixing, and less chance of engine failure. It also has a vented choke plate for the best fuel delivery and less chance of flooding.
