Pityrosporum Folliculitis/Malassezia folliculitis or simply known as Fungal Acne is a persistent acne-like condition that commonly responds poorly to traditional acne-treating methods. Unlike most cases of Acne where bacteria is the culprit, Fungi is the culprit of Fungal Acne (Hence the name!). There are certain classes & groups of ingredients that have been shown to promote and feed the growth of the Fungal Acne, Fungi such as fatty acids, oils, esters, polysorbates and fermented ingredients. Parabens are a large group of preservatives which are used to prevent bacteria growing in cosmetic formulations.Anyone who wants to try a snail-based serum but with a little more oomph (ie. copper peptide) and without the stringy texture. A 2007 study examined the molecular basis for the great regeneration properties of the ingredient. It found that snail slime (SS) indeed does a bunch of positive things that could be the reason for its great repair abilities. First, it has serious antioxidant properties thanks to two great antioxidant enzymes, superoxide dismutase and glutathione s-transferase. Second, SS induces fibroblast proliferation, that's particularly important during wound healing. Third SS was also found to downregulate MMP, an evil enzyme that's out there to destroy skin-firming collagen. These properties add up to give SS not only wound healing and regenerative properties but also serious anti-aging potential. I would top off the toner with this emulsion, and the ingredients in the emulsion are virtually the same. Much like the toner it does enrich my skin with an extra boost of moisture that my skin loves. My skin felt soft and supple after letting it soak in the emulsion for about 30 seconds. I did notice, however, that the snail mucin was not the an active ingredient but rather the birch sap and sodium hyaluronate. Nothing to complain about since it did its job by moisturizing and still has the other ingredients, just in lower concentrations. Out of the whole line, I would say this is one item that I could probably live without but I wouldn’t say it’s terrible at the least!
Regarding anti-aging, a 2013 study in the Journal of Drugs in Dermatology examined the effect of SS onphotoaged skin. The 14-week, double-blind,25 participant study found that "there was a significant degree of improvement in fines lines", though the participants did not report a significant difference in the quality of their skin. The Silicone-free label only includes the most common Silicone ingredients that have indentified been reported by individuals that could potentially cause issues. Copper Peptide is another ingredient that caught my eyes. In addition to wound healing properties, it also helps break down unhealthy collagen in scar tissues while encouraging normal collagen growth! An old study actually compared the collagen production effect of copper peptide, vitamin c, and retinol, and yep, copper peptide won! 5 It also helps increase elastin andglycosaminoglycans producttion, both of which are important for maintaining skin elasticity and hydration. 6

It is possible for cosmetics to contain one of the suspect ingredients without it appearing on the ingredient list due to it not reaching the concentration threshold to disclose it and cosmetic manufacturers choice to not disclose it. Again, no snail here, but if you want to focus on copper peptides and anti-aging in general, this is a popular and still relatively affordable option. A Spanish radiation oncologist,Rafael Abad Iglesias MD discovered for the first time that snail mucin can be used to treatradiation dermatitis (skin irritation caused by radiotherapy, a form of cancer treatment). He did a clinical study with 100 patients and reported a "statistically significant clinical improvement in erythema, itching and burning pain" in the group treated with snail slime.
Trades some of the snail goo for other ingredients like niacinamide, hyaluronic acid, and panthenol to seriously up the hydration factor and add some brightening benefits. Again, no potential anti-aging benefits here, so it depends on your needs. A few studies have been done on the overall effect of snail mucin and found that it helped improved the appearance of fine lines after 8 weeks of use. 3 They also noticed skin repairing properties when it was applied after a cosmeticprocedure. 4 This serum is exactly what I expected it to be: gentle and hydrating. If you’re looking for that juicy plump result instantly, this isn’t it. But throughout the past month it still kept my skin balanced in the dry cold air. Because it absorbs so well into my skin, it’s almost as if I never applied this extra layer, but my skin definitely notices a difference when I skip this.
