Test a small area first for colour and adhesion: Colour the final colour will depend upon the type of surface, previous treatment and number of coats applied. If using more than one can it is advisable to mix them together in a container or finish in a corner before starting a new can. Adhesion: if adhesion is inadequate on previously coated surfaces, lightly sand before application. We had a fabulous lunch whilst the Cuprinol (and Dulux) Creative Director, Marianne Shillingford, talked us through the latest garden trends and how their Garden Shades are inspired by nature. As Garden Shades often goes on directly to the wood, without a primer, sometimes it will soak deep into the wood and this can create the need for a third coat. This may be noticeable with rougher woods, open end grains or indeed deep colours. If wood has been exposed and dried out for a long period of time, this may also draw the more of the product away from the surface and into the wood structure. But, injecting colour into your garden doesn’t have to stop at your fence and shed! Hey, you might not even have a shed or fence and still want to join the Paint Fan Gang! Member = 1. Me. So here are a few more ideas to help you get that paintbrush out in the garden. Create your own jazzy furniture

The greenish-gray beige tone pairs well with bushes, plants, and wood structures in gardens of any style. Cuprinol Olive GardenStir thoroughly before pouring contents into a Cuprinol sprayer. Overspraying surrounding areas can be minimized by avoiding spraying in windy conditions and by using cardboard or plastic as a shield. Any overspray should be cleaned up immediately (whilst still wet) with water and household detergent. We put a new fence up around our garden and after a few months over the summer, it was already showing signs of damage. The fence is pine and it desperately needed painting. Using bright garden paint colours on your furniture really does add character and pops of interest in dark corners. If you have a wooden table and chairs and are a rubbish gardener like me (think flowers not living past a week old), why not paint them different colours to add a bit of cheerfulness to your garden. Cuprinol have also painted the top of this pallet in Buttercup Blast Painting our fence blue started the ball rolling when it came to planning our Mediterranean-inspired garden. Be mindful that it is waxed-enriched and that once these waxes are dried, they act to repel liquids, which would include an additional coats. Don't try to coat the whole project with one coat before getting onto the next coat. Instead it is better to paint sections in in time chunks of 2-4 hours.

Originally, we were going to install a pergola as these are a big feature in Mediterranean gardens, but as the new garden space is under a canopy of beautiful trees which shades different areas during the day, we decided we didn’t need one. Here are a few of my favourite painted sheds and fences! Let’s banish that boring brown and turn our arches and pergolas into an assortment of colours! A bit like trellises, arches or arbours look so much better when painted in a different colour to brown, so they really stand out against the plants. The soft white tone complements just about any garden style, from traditional to modern. It won’t clash. A beautiful shade of green allows for bright colours to be used in the garden. Cuprinol Willow We have recently been gifted two wooden sun loungers from Wayfair UK and these will be taking their place where we get the most sun! We have added patio slabs which we already had to make a path over to the garden shed and I am going to use masonry paint to paint Moroccan-style tiles onto them.

Urban Slate has an upscale, modern aesthetic. It gives a stylish, refined look to any outdoor space. Cuprinol Country Cream Gardens have got it all now haven’t they? Who needs to go indoors ever again? Unless you’re British which means all the time when it starts to rain although no rain was forecast. Anyway…

10 steps to creating our Mediterranean-inspired garden

You would need some masonry paint to do this and I think, compared to exterior garden paint, there isn’t such a great choice. But, coming from Brighton where this is an abundance of brightly coloured house fronts, I’m sure you would be able to find a colour that brings joy to your outdoor space. The lovely Maxine of welovehomeblog.com has painted her exterior a fabulous shade of aqua! Fence and Shed After weeks of being let down by garden stores when it came to getting hold of a large coffee table for our garden, we decided to make our own. Got tired wooden furniture in your garden? Sun loungers seen better days? Can’t get hold of any garden furniture and want to make your own?
