Description

Skylar is the youngest of 4 sisters, having moved to Linden U from California to discover herself away from her bubbly rich family. She suffers from social anxiety, she is shy and introverted and has a hard time making friends. The caveman acts, unfortunately, didn't fly with me. Especially against this poor girl. Yes I know she takes the stupidest risk sometimes in attempt of her self-preservation, but dammit the caveman things just worsened it for me. Ivy and Aiden. Best childhood friends. Ivy grew up in an unloving home, parents fighting a lot. Until she could not face it anymore and ran away. Trading her body for a place to stay, hurting herself. Until she gets it together and goes to Lindon University where she meets Aiden again. Rising football star. I adored the way fate pushed them together. They both had their own struggles in life, but those struggles ultimately bring them together again and it was done so beautifully.

As for the romance, I wish Ivy showed her love as freely as Aiden did, but I understood why she couldn't all the time. Towards the end of the book, I truly did appreciate her even though I never really fell in love with her. All in all this was still a great read from an incredibly talented author and I can't wait to see what she does next!! idk how to word it but she’s like the type of character that goes through so much that you kinda have to like her??? yeah well i didnt.

Just when she thinks she's about to drown in the foggy memories of her night spent partying at the football house, Daniel Bridges walks into her life. Lindon University's wide receiver. A total flirt. And a total threat. Our hero had me melting and swooning like there was no tomorrow, he was perfection. A breath of fresh air. These two just made sense together. He was her pillar of strength even when she didn't need it, she was his strength to keep him fighting for what he wanted. Even as a young chid he always tried to protect Ivy and made sure she had somewhere to go when things were tough at home. To see that carry through as an adult was so good to see.

i didnt hate her but her character definitely annoyed me at times with her constantly pushing aiden away. i think to a certain extent i get her but its all. the. time.Been absorbed in some heavy hitting books this month and needed a little break. That always come with a trip to Kindle Unlimited to find a sports-related college romance. Can't say this one could be defined as refreshing or much lighter than the heavy hitters I've been reading. Wow! The angst and sad story was heartbreaking. But the star football player was a much-needed relief. A caring and sharing kinda guy who isn't full of himself. Just the kind of hero our poor heroine needed. Dare You To Hate Me was an emotional journey through my own self-reflection with issues I’ve dealt with in the past and an amazingly well written story about the lives of Ivy and Aiden and everyone else in their lives. I’m not even sure where to start as this story was complex and emotional in so many ways that I needed to take some time to reflect on what I had read. I actually finished it almost a week ago and am just now sitting down to try and capture all my thoughts. Ivy,” he repeats, and I wonder if he can hear how hard my heart thumps with the sound of my name coming from his lips again. What Skylar doesn't anticipate is the friendship she forms with the witty football player as months go on. And how easy it is to fall for him as he teaches her how to trust again...and so much more.”

My only issue was that I found the pacing a bit too slow on the second part. I fully agree that the author couldn't hurry Sky's healing but it felt a bit dragged nevertheless in the last 20%. And what can I say for Aiden??? He was having a heart made of gold and even though he wasn't broken as Ivy were, he had his own share of heartbreak and disappointments.. How can I move thee? Will no entreaties cause thee to turn a favourable eye upon thy creature, who implores thy goodness and compassion? Believe me, Frankenstein, I was benevolent; my soul glowed with love and humanity; but am I not alone, miserably alone? You, my creator, abhor me; what hope can I gather from your fellow creatures, who owe me nothing? They spurn and hate me. The desert mountains and dreary glaciers are my refuge. I have wandered here many days; the caves of ice, which I only do not fear, are a dwelling to me, and the only one which man does not grudge. These bleak skies I hail, for they are kinder to me than your fellow beings. If the multitude of mankind knew of my existence, they would do as you do, and arm themselves for my destruction. Shall I not then hate them who abhor me? I will keep no terms with my enemies. I am miserable, and they shall share my wretchedness. Yet it is in your power to recompense me, and deliver them from an evil which it only remains for you to make so great, that not only you and your family, but thousands of others, shall be swallowed up in the whirlwinds of its rage. Let your compassion be moved, and do not disdain me. Listen to my tale; when you have heard that, abandon or commiserate me, as you shall judge that I deserve. But hear me. The guilty are allowed, by human laws, bloody as they are, to speak in their own defence before they are condemned. Listen to me, Frankenstein. You accuse me of murder, and yet you would, with a satisfied conscience, destroy your own creature. Oh, praise the eternal justice of man! Yet I ask you not to spare me; listen to me, and then, if you can, and if you will, destroy the work of your hands." Danny was everything and Skylar, ahh the wah she grew!!! The way she got over all the difficulties and started to trust again. Aiden and Ivy's relationship from being a friend to a couple was smoothly transitioned and well-developed. I liked that they had history as friends and I liked how it helped intensified the tension between them. I liked the gradual build up of their relationship as a couple. It was the simple things like; sharing their insecurities and secrets first before sharing themselves. Not the usual storyline where sex first then talk.

i can understand both characters and why they do what they do, it still gets really irritating when they arent willing to learn so it becomes a huge cycle of the same thing I recommend this book to those who likes: B. Celeste, friends to lovers, sports, enemies to lovers, second chance, college, emotional, and a happily ever after. First, it started pretty good (and triggers-load for me). Then, past halfway mark, it got super frustrating. I had a hard time connecting with these people, despite having so much similarities with them. Hence why it was frustrating.

Aiden Griffiths is the star tight end, dedicated, driven and singularly focused until he stumbles into a coffee shop and upon his childhood best friend. Ivy had left him behind once, but he wasn't going to loose her again. Safety: trigger warning for attempted suicide, suicidal thoughts; 3+ semi explicit scenes with sexual content. i started getting annoyed at how repetitive it got between ivy and aiden with her pushing him away and him pushing her into confiding in him. it was a lot of pushing and there wasnt really a balance I take her hand and squeeze it ... "You can’t always be the punching bag so others miss the hits, and that’s what you were.” Ivy and Aiden went on quite a journey throughout the story, and it was so good to see them heal their relationship from where they last left it. If you are someone who likes a sweet hero, LOOK NO FURTHER! Aiden is going to be your new favorite book boyfriend. He handled situations so well throughout the entire story, and I think he was just a really standup character. He knew when to push and when to give space. He went through some character development in the book, and I loved how it all played out. He always stood up for what he believed in, and I respect that 100%.

With rumors of him being drafted to the NFL coming to fruition, I know it’s only a matter of time before we have to say goodbye again.⁣ One other plus that really made this book for me was the relationships with the side characters. I LOVED Aiden’s family. I think the guys on the football team were amazing! (Um, can we get DJ’s story next???) The way they joked around with Aiden but stepped up to protect Ivy and support each other was so fun to read. I also liked the resolution with Ivy’s family as that progressed in the story. It didn’t play out like I was anticipating, and I really enjoyed seeing that unfold. The star of this book for me was definitely Danny aka DJ. I loved his character, his friendship efforts with Sky, his text exchanges with his awesome grandma and also how he tries to push Sky to seek help. this book was pretty good. the first half had me hooked for sure but then the second half was… kind of a turn off?? it was just repetitive and boring tbh and bad. its like 2-3 star but im feeling generous so it can have a 3
