Written by superstar children's author Swapna Haddow, these knee-slappingly funny books are perfect for fans of Grimwood, Bad Panda, Toto the Ninja Cat and Captain Pug. Bestselling author Alexandra Christo, author of TikTok sensation To Kill a Kingdom, introduces her new book, The Night Hunt (Hot Key Books), a dark... Adults and children will love sharing this book about the hilarious comedic-duo that are Dave and Skipper. Whether you are laughing at Dave’s over-confidence and bossiness or giggling at Skipper as he is required to carry out Dave's crazy plans, there is never a dull moment. It is the perfect comedy read with messages about friendship and bravery, and proof that pigeon will just about go to any lengths to get their beaks on a baked treat.

BUT BE WARNED! To read this book you will have to be fluent in Pigeonese. And only super smart people can learn Pigeonese (definitely not cats). WINNER of the Greenhouse Funny Prize; SHORTLISTED for the Sainsbury's Book Award and numerous regional awards, this hilarious series is adored by its readers! A very funny story about friendship and teamwork told from the point of view of Dave, a pigeon who is not quite as clever as he thinks he is.

The winners of the Diverse Book Awards 2023 have been announced, with one winner from each of the four categories announced: Picture book, Children...

Having briefly experienced Human Lady’s house and the smells of delicious treats the duo quite fancy the home for themselves. If only they could work out a way to get rid of Mean Cat… Not Pigeons I hear you say. Always trying to steal your chips or just generally being annoying. Well you obviously haven’t met any pigeons like Dave and Skipper. Join the duo on a laugh-out-loud adventure full of madcap plans, plenty of napping and lots of delicious biscuits (particularly the ones with jam in the middle). The first Dave Pigeon book was the winner of the North Somerset Teachers’ Book Award, Read Aloud Category 2016, the winner of Surrey Libraries’ Children’s Book Award 2017, and a winner of the Fantastic Book Awards 2018. Swapna then moved to New Zealand where she continues to write, loves to read and eats Jaffa Cakes.Dave and his mate Skipper are taken in by a kind human lady when Dave injures his wing. Unfortunately she also has a mean cat who, of course, must be got rid of so that the pigeon duo can live in the lap of luxury in the house, rather than the shed. Their catbrained schemes are, predictably, wildly unsuccessful until, accidentally, one of their plans does work. Even then they are faced with a further dilemma - they have to share their bounty with all the other birds in the neighbourhood. This amusing story of perseverance and resilience is a great way to introduce young children to the concept of never giving up and always trying again - who'd have thought two daft pigeons could be such good role models? Dapo Adeola, Tracy Darnton, Joseph Coelho and Chitra Soundar are among the 19 authors and illustrators longlisted for the Inclusive Books for Child... Let's face it: pigeons are not the loveliest or cutest animals in the wild. But this hilarious giggle-inducing series will make any reader aged 7+ LOVE Dave Pigeon!

Funny books. That's what our children get these days when they move off the reading scheme books at school and begin to read whole chapter books themselves. And thankfully when the books are as good as 'Dave Pigeon' that's more than OK.WINNER of the Greenhouse Funny Prize; SHORTLISTED for the Sainsbury’s Book Award and numerous regional awards, this hilarious series is adored by its readers! Bought this book as a read aloud for my Year 3 and 4 class and I'm so pleased I did as it was a massive success! It was so popular that we are now reading book 2 as a class and I have bought books 3 and 4 to add to the class library. A very accessible book for readers who are beginning to read chapter books. The chapters are short and the book is illustrated throughout with entertaining sketches by Sheena Dempsey. The action and laughs are non-stop as the two pigeons plot their revenge on Mean Cat. Just make sure your biscuits are hidden away or you might find Dave with his beak in them. The Primary School Library Alliance is calling on the government to match-fund the private investment it has brought into helping primary schools c... I had such a great time reading this with my class and I know they enjoyed it too as they asked me to go straight on to book 2. Speaking of book 2, I would highly recommend having this one on hand when you near the end of book 1 as the second book will explain any questions you might have when you finish the first one.

The story follows the adventures of two pigeons (Dave and Skipper) as retold by Skipper, with many interuptions from Dave. In this first instalment, we witness Dave and Skipper's many attempts to get into the Human Lady's house where there is a plentiful supply of pastries and biscuits. The Human Lady shows lots of affection and kindness towards them and her home is abosolutely perfect, apart from the fact that Mean Cat lives there! Dave and Skipper devise several plans (which become increasingly ridiculous as the story goes on) to get rid of Mean Cat. Coffee house Caffè Nero has announced the 16-strong shortlist for the inaugural Nero Book Awards, recognising the outstanding books of the past 12...
