About this deal

The M5Ks are unusual in that they are oriented with the tweeter at the bottom and the midbass driver above. This makes them a true bookshelf design, as the alignment of the drivers will generally result in a more appropriate tweeter height when the speakers are on a bookshelf. The grilles will flip to orient the badge correctly if you want to stand them in a more traditional orientation with the tweeter above the bass driver, but this also cites the cable terminals at the top of the rear baffle, and at a slight downward angle. I see no reason not to use them as intended, as even on a pair of stands the imaging doesn’t suffer from the downward tweeter. The drivers are so close together anyway. Standing 235mm high, 140mm wide and 170mm deep, the two speakers are small enough to fit easily onto a shelf or sit on a desk alongside a computer. However, they can still squeeze in two sets of RCA inputs for analogue audio (with a 3.5mm adaptor included for computers and mobile devices), while the digital features include USB-Audio, optical and coaxial inputs with support for hi-res audio up to 24-bit/192kHz. And, of course, there’s Bluetooth for wireless streaming too.

At Peter Tyson we pride ourselves on prompt, efficient delivery. Please note that the daily cut off time for all next day delivery services is 3pm. If the D-M41DAB – which we'd again recommend pairing with the company’s designated speakers – doesn’t quite put its predecessor to shame, it certainly puts it in the shade. While the Prodigy 1’s precision and organisation warrant the label ‘analytical’, the speakers aren’t informative at the expense of entertainment. Systematic, yes, but anything but soulless. It doesn’t matter how good your headphones are or how loud your Bluetooth speaker goes, there are still times when the best choice is a good old-fashioned set of bookshelf speakers. And we’re not necessarily talking about little desktop speakers that sit next to your computer monitor either. While several of the smaller speakers here would be perfect for a desk, or a PC, you’ll get the most immersive, expansive stereo sound from speakers placed wide apart from each other, either on a bookshelf or on floor stands that enable you to move them as far apart as your living room allows. The K in the model denotes the UK manufacturing, produced in Huntingdon. The non K models, and the M50s, were made in Malaysia. The Malaysian model uses an emulsified silk dome tweeter, where the UK model uses an open mesh silk dome tweeter that I believe was manufactured by Audax. I believe the bass driver is a variant (possible direct rebadge) of the Audax HP100GO. Regardless of its origin it is a 110 mm (4 inch) driver with a polymer basket, glass-fibre cone and rubber surround. The combination of low-end stability and dynamic sensibilities leaves us with a remarkably human performance for a hi-fi system at this price. STYLISH DESIGN, EXCEPTIONAL SOUND - Enjoy a smooth and natural sound with these two-way loudspeakers that represent pure craftmanship and reproduce your favourite songs as the artist recorded it. Naturally I forewent the original system and connected them straight to the Hypex Nilai500s. Capable of 525W into 4Ω, 260W into 8Ω and somewhere around 320W into a 6Ω load, the Nilai500s could without doubt tear the cones from the baskets and vaporise the crossovers without much encouragement. Any amplifier of high quality can safely be used with any speaker within reason, providing the speaker falls within the amplifier’s minimum impedance specification. Damage is more likely to occur driving a power-hungry speaker with an underpowered amp than the reverse, though it is possible to damage a low-power speaker with a high-power amp. Generally you’ll hear the point of damage approaching before any irreparable destruction occurs. I get a lot of people asking if an amp of x wattage can be used with speakers of x wattage, and the answer is generally yes.

To ensure reliable, undamaged delivery of televisions - TVs will now be shipped on a pallet service with DX Freight, TNT, or Epic Logistics, rather than with our standard next working day courier.

They're commonly known as bookshelf speakers, as some are small enough to fit in/on a bookshelf, or even on to desks. But a bookshelf isn't necessarily where you should put them – we would always recommend placing them on dedicated speaker stands to ensure they sound their best. Many of the products on this list, such as the KEF LS50 Meta, clearly demonstrate they deliver their full potential when not shoved into a corner or in a bookshelf.

NEW LOW PROFILE BINDING POSTS

Low Profile Terminals - recessed cut-out reduces cabinet noise and allows them to be close proximity to rear walls These are the type to buy if you want to cut down on the clutter and cables of traditional hi-fi – or if you just don’t want to spend extra on a stereo amplifier. Connect them directly to laptops, PCs and smartphones via a 3.5mm audio cable – or, in some cases, do away with wires completely and stream music via Bluetooth. 1. Adam Audio T5V: The best-value active bookshelf speakers You don’t have to spend hundreds to get good quality sound, but you might want to avoid the cheapest options. The challenge for the manufacturers, of course, is to coax decent sound quality from smaller boxes. This makes it crucial to look for speakers that feel well-built, with cabinets made of wood, MDF or another sturdy, inflexible material that helps reduce the vibration and distortion that can spoil your sound. If you tap the speaker cabinet and hear the rattling sound of cheap and cheerful plastic, just move on…

Uses a 22mm decoupled High Frequency Driver with wide surround creating a wide even dispersion of stereo image

We reserve the right to refuse installation should our engineers think that the existing electrical or plumbing points are unsafe and in need of maintenance or if they are unable to install to existing furniture. CREATE YOUR OWN TV SOUND SYSTEM - Pair the speakers with the CEOL-N10 audio receiver or another amplifier to build your own sound system for fascinating movie nights or gaming sessions. They’re not quite perfect: place the LSX just a few metres apart and you’ll notice that the connection between the two does begin to suffer, compromising the audio quality. If that causes issues, then you can use the supplied Ethernet cable to link the two speakers instead. solve this issue, although the wireless experience is still far from terrible. The forward midrange remains. I’m not sure if they’re purposely tuned in this way or if it’s down to the small cabinet, or resonance in the cabinet. But with a bit of power behind them, the low end improves significantly and the top end opens out nicely too. They’re never going to produce ground-shaking bass, and there are numerous other bookshelf speakers of a similar size or only slightly bigger that will offer up more bass and. Smoother, flatter response than these. But they’re sure-footed and articulate, and great fun when things get loud. A feature-loaded Hi-Fi setup with a 2-way loudspeaker setup, bass reflex port, a frequency response of 50 Hz - 20 kHz, 6 ohms impedance, and a power handling capacity of up to 120 watts at peak.
