This is a simple way to wind a centre-pull ball if you don’t have a ball winder or nostepinne to use. This will work whether you’re left or right-handed, although I’m showing you how to do it from my right-handed perspective – just reverse the instructions if you need to! This is also shown on the video so if you want to watch how to do it, you’ll find it there.

Here comes another fiddly bit so read this through first! You’re going to get hold of the tip of your long circular needle (make absolutely sure you’ve got that and not a DPN!) with your left hand and you’re going to slide all the stitches you’ve knitted onto the cable with your right hand, leaving you with a length of needle tip and cable in your left hand and the stitches sitting safely on the cable to the right. All you need to do is divide the 60 stitches by 4, which will give you 15 stitches for each needle. However, that will mean you splitting your K2 or P2 rib stitches across the needles so you’ll find that it’s easiest to have an even number of stitches on each needle so we’re going to split them 16, 14, 14, 16. It doesn’t matter that you have one more or less on each needle as long as your total number of stitches stays the same. If you have cast on more or less than 60 stitches, just divide the total number by 4 and that will give you the number of stitches for each needle, but again make sure that you have an even number on each needle. To join into the round, simply knit the first stitch of needle one onto needle five, pulling the yarn tightly for the first two stitches (circled in the picture). This helps to reduce ladders and should be done every time you change needles. You will be able to sew up the small gap where you knitted the first two rows on the DPNs later with your tail end. If you chose to cast on with DPNs, this is the point where you are going to change to your 2.5mm circular needle – all you have to do is to knit the stitches from the DPN onto your circular needle. If you’ve cast on with your circular, just work across your needle as before but follow the instructions below for creating the magic loop, continuing to knit in K2 P2 rib. If you find that your knitting is turning inside out, don’t worry. It’s very easy to fix – just put your hand inside your knitting and pull it the right way out! We’ve all done it, it’s one of those fun beginner things! 🙂We also appreciate that the design of these booties is considerate of accessibility. With both the adjustable drawstring and heel pull-tab, the Full Moons can be put on with one hand. Hold the two DPNs with your left hand. Insert the wool needle purl-wise into the first stitch on the front DPN and pull the yarn through. Don’t take the stitch off the DPN. Repeat rounds 1 and 2 until you have decreased to the number of stitches that you cast on, then work straight until the foot is the required length.

We’re half way through! Hopefully you’ve found it quite easy to get to this point after the initial fiddly bits at the cast on. The next section isn’t quite so fiddly, but it takes a bit of thinking about otherwise you run out of space to work (ask me how I know that! 🙂 ).Designed with a Vegan quilted upper insulation, the Teva ReEMBER will keep your feet warm while doing chores around the house or hanging out by the bonfire at camp. Their treaded soles are sturdy, allowing for extended outdoor use and mileage. While we wouldn’t want to hike in the snow with these on, they are perfect for that morning stroll to the local coffee house. For us, what sets them apart from other minimalist down booties is their superior comfort. Not only is the down very soft, but the cinch cord also adds ankle adjustment to keep them secure on your feet. And the 1/4’’ foam insole adds comfort, support, and durability. FOAM: If you want a little more structure to your down booties, then look for a pair with a foam sole. Although the foam won’t do much in the way of ground protection, it will make the booties sturdier.

We like that, for added measure, the sole is made with an ultralight, water-resistant Primaloft Aerogel insert, which offers continuous insulation even if compressed. The booties close around the ankle with a cinched drawstring and run to mid-calf, making them a warm option. As you work these rows, you’ll notice that there’s a gap between the end of your knit or purl stitches in the middle and the remaining stitches to be worked into the heel. This will help you to work out where you’re up to. Continue to make the figure of eight for about ten or twelve more wraps – until you have a reasonable amount of yarn to get hold of. If you’re knitting on four DPNs, then just divide the total number of stitches by three. You’ll split them across your needles in exactly the same way as in the following pictures but won’t use the fourth needle as you’ll need that to knit with. If you’re planning on wearing your down booties in snow, rain or sleet, you’ll definitely want to consider purchasing a pair that’s waterproof or water resistant. Many of the options listed in this guide have varying degrees of water protection and some more than others.

Site Customisation

Air drying is possible, though not always the best method because it can take quite a while, and it’s hard to prevent the down from clumping.

A 5-inch cuff protects the ankles and helps to retain body heat. The polyurethane upper is coated to keep out moisture. When you’re shopping for down footwear, think about where you’ll be wearing the booties and how much durability you might want. Do you want an insulating slipper with a sturdy sole? Or do you want something with fewer shoe features, maybe to wear inside your sleeping bag? The booties won’t be much for warmth if there’s no way to trap in the heat they're producing. Therefore, many pairs come with enclosures around the ankles, like elastic cuffs or cinch draw-strings. Either works and deciding which feels or fits best is the user's call. Just ensure the cuffs fit comfortably yet securely to keep warm air in and stop cold air from getting in.

Now we are going to bring in the rest of the DPNs, but at this point you’re going to change down to 2.5mm needles for the rest of the rib. Because you have knitted the first two rows, you’ll find it much easier to incorporate more needles without twisting your stitches, although care still needs to be taken. This is the point where it really might feel as if you’re wrestling with a hedgehog, but take it slowly and it will be fine! The layer of Intuition foam — which is a blended closed-cell design — in the footbed must be celebrated for its all-day comfort, custom molded contours, and warmth. Inside, the layer of synthetic fur is soft and cozy.
