The button tones for using the mode button can be turned off. This means that the watch no longer beeps when switching from one function to another. Preset alarm or countdown timers remain active when the button tones are deactivated. Notification support needs to be enabled in the companion phone app or the watch settings, where you can choose for those notifications to be displayed on part of the screen or the entire screen – you’ll definitely want to do the latter. For longer notifications you’ll need to press the stiff Mode button to scroll through them.

Without a touchscreen you’re left with some pretty stiff physical buttons to slowly scroll through menu screens, which can make trying using this watch time an arduous process to try and see something other than the time. I wish I had better news for those of you reading the review and looking for an excuse to buy the DW-H5600 for yourself. Your experience may vary. I’d encourage you to try and find the DW-H5600 in-store and play with the menus, see how it feels on your wrist, before you make a final decision. There is also a power-saving mode, which restricts the use of all of the smartwatch features and leaves you just with the ability to glance at the time and that will certainly get you longer. The watch battery is rechargeable with the included proprietary USB cable or by solar. This is not a “Tough Solar” watch, so it cannot be fully powered by solar if all the functions are used regularly, but the time display can be driven by solar alone. The wired charging time is approximately three hours, and a full charge will last about a week when used for about one hour per day, according to Casio. On a full charge without further solar charging, the watch will run for about 35 hours in activity mode with the heart rate monitor on. In watch mode with the hear rate monitor turned off, the battery life is approximately one month, and with power saving on, it is about 11 months.
