About this deal

The Ebac 2650e dehumidifier sits firmly in the “mid-range.” It’s not too pricey but there are also cheaper options available. Even so, we think it provides reasonable value for money, especially with the Smart Control system and large extraction capacity. Summary The machine is much easier to roll around on the castor wheels that can be fitted, but you’ve guessed it, they’re also an optional extra. This is good when you don't want the humidity level to change. It's found most commonly on some entry-level Ebac models, as well as the Ebac Powerdri 18 Litre model. Ebac Smart Control feature While the appearance of the 2650e is functional rather than stylish, it’s not an ugly dehumidifier. It has a hidden water tank that’s accessed by the front panel, which provides a smoother appearance than some of its competitors. And one has several Best Buys, while the other has none. The brand with no Best Buys also has one model that disappointed us so much that we made it a Don't Buy.

If you have a large or very damp house, however, the Ebac 3850e still provides good value for money. Summary This makes the unit powerful enough to work in homes of up to 4-5 bedrooms. On average that means is can effectively dehumidify an area of around 210m² to 420m³. Water Collection One thing that surprised us here is that Ebac have not supplied the hose. This would have been a nice addition considering it is a premium unit. Intelligent Defrost System One thing to consider is that a lot of the time that dehumidifier will not be active in smart mode and so the 43p per day estimate from Ebac is fair.

The Ebac Foundation

Ebac dehumidifiers aimed at ordinary home use range from 10 litres to 21 litres. Capacity doesn't mean tank capacity, it means extraction rate. To learn more and what capacity you should go for, head to our guide on buying a dehumidifier. Ebac does something very interesting with its filter as it provides a fairly chunky charcoal-based filter that covers the whole air intake area. Like every refrigerant model, the 3850e cannot operate down to the low temperatures that a desiccant model can. However, the 3850e unit can stay operating down to very respectable 3°C before it becomes ineffective. It’s rated to extract 21 litres per day at 32°C and 90% relative humidity. At UK temperatures the machine will extract a lot less, but enough to control the humidity of a large family home as described in the paragraph above. As with all refrigerant dehumidifiers, the machine will extract less and less water as the temperature drops, so try to keep your home above 15°C to get the best out of it. Having said that, Ebac say that the unit will keep working down to 3°C and as you’d expect, there’s an automatic defrost setting that will switch on with increasing frequency as the temperature drops to maintain the efficiency of the unit.

While this may sound like a lot of moisture to extract, this should be considered a worst-case scenario. I tested the 21L Ebac 3850e dehumidifier in smart mode alongside another 10L dehumidifier to see how much moisture they would extract in 24 hours. The room gets condensation but doesn’t have a serious damp problem. In this time the Ebac 3850e extracted 2.4L whilst the 10L dehumidifier extracted 1.4L. The 3850e is has a capacity of 21 litres per day. This is one of the highest available for domestic dehumidifiers and it'scapable of reducinghumidity in four or five bedroom houses. We’re impressed with the energy efficiency of the 2650e. It has a maximum power consumption of 180W – even when on “High” fan mode. This is less than most dehumidifiers and means it’s cheaper to run.

The second of the modes, ‘max’, turns the unit on to maximum dehumidifying power and the unit does not stop dehumidifying no matter how low the humidity gets. It also utilises the faster of the two fan speeds to ensure maximum extraction takes place. This function is ideal for drying laundry or a particularly damp room as it will extract moisture as fast as possible by driving the humidity levels lower, pulling more moisture out of wet clothes or walls. We’ll talk about how the laundry setting utilises the ‘max’ mode later in this review. Some models come with a technology called Smart Control, which Ebac claims is better than a basic humidistat (you would set it to your desired relative humidity or RH) and can reduce running costs by up to 32%. If your home suffers from damp and condensation during the winter months, you're not alone! Many UK households suffer from this problem. In most cases, adehumidifier is the best solution. Ebac dehumidifiers are specifically built to cope with thevaried conditions in a UK home. The buttons are located either side of the display. They are fairly self-explanatory and straightforward to use. The Ebac also includes almost all the settings we would expect from a top-end dehumidifier, such as: The idea is it prevents excess moisture developing, rather than simply responding to it. It's also designed to try to achieve an optimum relative humidity that varies according to the activities within your home and the weather outside, rather than trying to achieve a fixed relative humidity.

Other features include an air purification mode, for removing smoke and pollen, and an auto shut-off feature when full. The machine has two fan settings and an integrated handle. We’re impressed by how simple the 3850e is to use. There are a variety of features available, but you won’t need to spend hours reading the manual to understand it. Value for Money

You work at BID, what a legend.

Whilst Ebac does not warn against using this setting continuously we would recommend not using it for everyday use because the continuous operation in the highest mode is known to place a strain on all dehumidifiers when used often and may shorten its lifespan. Smart Mode One of the advantages of the 2650e is that it comes with Ebac’s Smart Control system. This, according to Ebac, improves on the standard humidistat feature found on many dehumidifiers by increasing energy efficiency. Once turned on, the dehumidifier will monitor the air humidity and only start working when needed. On the plus side, the Ebac has a front loading water container. We always prefer models with this feature, as it allows you to empty the dehumidifier without moving the machine. Portability
