About this deal

Chiang, AC, and K Wainwright (2005), Fundamental methods of mathematical economics (fourth edition), McGraw-Hill, Singapore. The second part of the module will cover game theory and topics in mechanism design. The subjects are fairly standard and can be studied from various sources and from different books. Further details will be provided later on. There's no requirement to consult them all, but the following textbooks will be most relevant:

Review exercises at the end of each chapter test student understanding of a topic, allowing them to progress with confidence. Verbeek, M. (2012), A Guide to Modern Econometrics (4th edition). Wiley. (Note: Any edition is OK). Further Mathematics for Economic Analysis by Knut Sydsaeter, Peter Hammond, Atle Seierstad and Arne Strom (2008).The aim of this course is to: (i) introduce and develop the analytical tools of graduate level Microeconomics with a special emphasis on mathematical models; (ii) provide the students with a firm grounding in classical Microeconomic Theory as well as its modern development. At least 5 hours a week: reading, research, writing, lecture preparation, tutorial preparation, workshop preparation, and review of material. You will typically receive the questions for each assignment at least half a week before it is due. Topics for the the first part of the module include: Consumer theory, producer theory, general equilibrium, welfare, social choice. Readings for the first part of the module will include:

Note that this assessment component is redeemable against the final exam. This means that it will only count if you receive a higher percentage mark for this assessment component than you do for the final exam. This will be calculated automatically. The date and time of the final exam will be determined by the central administration of the ANU. It will occur sometime during the official final exam period. Beginning in week two, a weekly workshop will be held in this course during the Monday afternoon lecture slot (from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm), assuming that questions for discussion at that workshop have been submitted.You are not permitted to attend timetabled teaching sessions until you arrive here on campus.
