The Masterson Sta-Wet Painter’s Pal Palette is a larger version of the popular Sta-Wet Palette shown above (see #1). It uses a similar lightweight plastic construction with a 1 inch deep container for the sponge insert and palette paper. The yellow cover distinguishes this wet palette from the other Masterson wet palette models. As with the other wet palette, all you need to do is moisten the sponge, layer inside the palette tray, and put the included paper palette on top. The reason a semi-permeable layer is added is so the paint can absorb the water but the sponge/tissue won’t absorb the paint. This is relatively easy, just grab some paper towels (Kitchen-Roll in the UK) for the most accessible approach. Loo roll is a bit soft and nor normally large enough to cover teh area in the palette which will cause folds. you want a palette with a smooth and flat surface.

You don’t have to worry about this, however, as colored pigment that stains does not effect your other paint colors. Also, you can probably wash most of it off the foam or the reusable membrane anyway (though most stains won’t completely go away). I noticed some staining of the hydration foam after a while. But this did not affect the performance of the palette and color did not contaiinate new paints. Mold growth? I’ve previously reviewed other Redgrass Games products, including their high-quality Everlasting Wet Palette and innovative RGG Desk Lamp. While their marketing team is indeed industrious, it’s also essential to recognize that their products are not just about branding—they deliver on quality. The plastic bottom tray and cover of the palette is a nice upgrade from the v1 version or painter lite, which required an elastic band to keep the palette closed. The airtight TPE seal around the cover edge fits snugly (maybe a bit too much) over the bottom palette tray. It’s even water tight (or seems like it). RedGrass Games took the miniature painting community by storm with their hobby product line. While a soft brush help avoid damaging the palette paper, I found that the hydration membrane for the Everlasting wet palette was very durable. This, of course, shouldn’t be a surprise because as mentioned, this paper is supposed to be last a long time. What’s so special about the RGG long-lasting hydration membrane?There you go, it’s a simple process with one minor (yes probably obvious) tweak you have a great wet palette that will last years. Because the absorbent foam was thin and flat, and the hydration paper stayed flat throughout my use. No major bubbles or wrinkles formed that disrupted my colors or workflow. Alternatively, if you are looking for a wet palette with similar features but at a lower price, I would recommend the D’Artisan Shoppe WetNDri Artist Tray or The Army Painter Wet Palette. Well, if you’ve added too little, your paints will dry start to go dry, and patches of the hydration paper will also remain dry to the touch. Whilst your paper shouldn’t be soggy or saturated, it should be damp to the touch. Can using a wet palette make you a better miniature painter? Maybe. The wet palette is thin, which I love. The hydration paper and foam sit low inside the bottom tray but as a whole, it’s almost as if there isn’t an elevated palette at all. It felt natural mixing paint and loading my brush from the comfortable height of my desk and chair. Paint color consistency was a pleasure to work with on this wet palette. I’ve had my eyes opened to so much from my brief time using this product, and as I was painting my figures I could actually feel myself getting better.
