About this deal

Afraid not! It’s the price you pay for not pumping air beds up by hand. Or foot. AM I GOING TO BE TOO HEAVY FOR AN AIR BED? Because we know that there’s nothing like a real recommendation from a real parent, we first headed to the Mumsnet forums to find out which airbeds discerning Mumsnet users had bought for their families.

However, it isn’t as ideal as a long-term solution. You’d get better value just getting a cheap mattress and putting it on the floor! Some air mattresses are known to deflate overnight because, as the external temperature drops, so too does the temperature of the air inside the mattress, causing it to contract and take up less space. This means that the mattress will feel less full.

MAXIMUM COMFORT: The bed is designed with 40 independent comfort support structures. These structures have been incorporated into the design to support your body throughout the night just like a normal bed would. Designed for a comfortable nights sleep with no disruptions. This is a guide for what you should be looking for from a new air bed, to make sure that you get the one that’s perfect for you. I’ve also put together a useful list of the best of what’s out there, to save you the trouble. You can even buy them online. You can just plug it in and watch it breathe life into your air bed, from the comfort of anywhere but stomping a foot pump. We’ve all been there. You’ve gone to sleep on your inflatable bed for the night, wrapped up in your sleeping bag. Then you wake up in the morning halfway across the room on the floor. Most importantly, think about the people you know who will be using the air bed. Do they deserve a double? How much do you really like them? I’m kidding, of course… HOW LONG CAN I USE AN AIR BED FOR? This is your bog-standard blow-up bed, it inflates easily with a regular external pump and does the usual thing of slowly deflating through the night. If you want an air bed for the occasional visitor, then it should last you well. You can use an air bed every night for a week or two and it’ll hold up fine. Size – As with any mattress, you can usually choose between a single or a double size – take note that a double airbed will probably be a bit shorter and narrower than a normal double mattress. King size airbeds are available, as are queen ones like this model from Intex.

I’m about to move to a fifth floor unfinished apartment with a winding staircase and a mezzanine bedroom with a skylight. Nice and Bohemian, but I can’t decide what bedding to organise. ULTIMATE LUXURY AIR BED: The YAWN air bed comes with a carry bag, making it easy to transport and store away, a built in headboard to prevent pillows falling off in the night and a fitted sheet which has been designed for ultimate comfort and convenience. Invite guests to stay over with confidence knowing they will have a comfortable nights sleep on the YAWN Air Bed. This air bed also has a plush foam topper which creates the impression that you’re on a regular mattress rather than an air bed. One of the great things about this air bed is the raised edge that runs around the whole thing. It’s designed to stop you from rolling out, giving you a more comfortable sleep. Especially good if you’re camping so you don’t roll onto the cold ground.

Tips: PVC Material will naturally stretch and expand during temperature changes. Temperatures drop during the night, leading to the sensation that your mattress has deflated. This is normal and is not the result of an air leak. Add air to the mattress to regain your desired firmness level using the built-in air pump. If you are using the air mattress for more than one night, supplement the mattress each day with 10-15 seconds of air to maintain its firmness. I was starting to have a feeling that if I walked into your average camping shop (if that were possible, which at the moment it isn’t) and answered “can I help you” with this list of requirements, I wouldn’t get very far.

I am no stranger to having friends to stay, talking to the wee hours and then remembering with a groan that the air bed still needs to be pumped up. My friends are my guests, I can’t make them do it. So I end up stomping a squeaky foot pump, to the hilarity of everyone else. Even if you aren’t prone to falling out of bed, it keeps your pillows from slipping off the end – something I hate when I’m on an air bed. For what it’s worth, at the moment I’ve got it down to the Vango Shangri-La 10 Double (I wonder what the difference is between this and the Odyssey? Or the Comfort?); the Outwell Wonderland, Dreamcatcher or Dreamboat (again, I don’t understand the difference between them); the Etekcity Portable Mattress with rechargeable pump; and the Coleman Airbed Cot (which I’m additionally attracted to because of its versatility, but I’m worried about that support bar running down the middle of the camp bed). However, there is one super essential detail that I would recommend to everyone who is considering buying an air bed:

What should I look for when buying an air mattress?

LARGE KING SIZE: Raised height blow up mattress with inflated dimensions of L203 x W152 x H56 cm (including the raised pillow). Puncture repair patches and carry bag included and CE Approved. Where you’ll be using it- There are various types of airbed to choose from depending on the purpose you need it for. If you’re looking for an occasional bed for guests then a standard inflatable air mattress like this one from Coleman should fit the bill perfectly. A lighter, narrower self-inflating mattress may be more appropriate if you’re camping or at a festival where space is at a premium and ease of use is particularly important. Most of them involve staying up till after midnight with my friends, trying to stifle the fit of giggles we just couldn’t stop.
