And here’s something fun: Call this Rumor Mill-worthy as well, but industry sources have also informed us that Criterion has been working on a new 4K Ultra HD upgrade of George Romero’s Night of the Living Dead for release likely as part of their October slate. Watch for an official announcement soon. Teenage Charley Brewster (Ragsdale) is a horror-film junkie, so it’s no surprise that, when a reclusive new neighbor named Jerry Dandridge (Sarandon) moves next-door, Brewster becomes convinced he is a vampire. It’s also no surprise when nobody believes him. However, after strange events begin to occur, Charlie has no choice but to turn to the only person who could possibly help: washed-up television vampire killer Peter Vincent (McDowall). NEW: Deleted Scene Storyboards – Tom Holland guides us through the film’s only deleted scene, using his personal pre-production storyboards Tom Holland’s Fright Night is one of those 1980s films, like The Howling and Re-Animator, that fearlessly blends horror and comedy into one fetching confection. This requires a delicate balancing act to prevent one mood from undercutting and thus negating the other. Making his debut as a feature filmmaker, Holland acquits himself admirably. The comedy aspects shine through owing to sharp writing and a game cast of both seasoned veterans and talented newcomers. On the other hand, the efficacy of the often gloopy horror elements can be ascribed to a crew of makeup and visual effects personnel who were fresh off making the immensely popular Ghostbusters. NEW:Holland/Beyda Spec Trailer with an Introduction by Tom Holland –the never-before-seen alternate trailer cut byFright Nighteditor Kent Beyda with the guidance—and narration—of Tom Holland NEW: The Queer Lens: Bryan Fuller in Conversation with Amanda Bearse – a candid discussion between Fright Night aficionado Bryan Fuller (Hannibal, Queer for Fear: The History of Queer Horror ) and Fright Night star Amanda Bearse about the Gothic’s queer roots, the film’s queer subtext, and its metaphorical power FIVE NIGHTS in Three Dimensions– FIVE NIGHTS AT FREDDY’S takes a two-dimensional game and turns it into a three-dimensional nightmare. And what a production, from pitch perfect casting to the Brad Fiedel 80s synth score to the make up effects, it’s all top shelf stuff. Ragsdale is such a likeable young lead, an everyman who navigates great stresses naturally and easily gains your empathy. Bearse and Jeffries also deliver great memorable performances in parts that could have easily fallen flat in the wrong hands. Sarandon is an epic vampire: seductive, menacing and also damn likeable. The stand out for this reviewer was Roddy McDowell, who turns in a perfect rendition of a washed up Vincent Price type who’s selfish hand is forced into becoming a hero. It’s beautiful to watch every time.At first, the setup for Fright Night seems practically archetypal. Typically, a teenager witnesses something horrible, fails to convince anyone in authority that the threat is real, thereby forcing them to face down the monster or murderer themselves, often aided by a ragtag crew of similar outsider figures. Here all those elements are firmly in place, but the story plays out very differently nevertheless.

Killer Animatronics– Freddy, Bonnie, Chica, and Foxy transform from cute and cuddly into creepy and killer through a combination of costumed performers and cutting-edge puppetry.Ragsdale speak about the film with an emphasis on Fright Night 2, the remake, casting, anecdotes from the set, and plenty more. NEW: A Novel Approach: The Splatterpunk Story of the Fright Night Novelization – Tom Holland, Fright Night novelization authors John Skipp and Craig Spector, and publisher Mark Alan Miller discuss how the progenitors of the splatterpunk genre came to work on the book, their writing process, and the novel’s enduring legacy
